If they cast her as Wonder Woman, any confidence people had that a Wonder Woman movie would be a serious effort would disappear instantly.

Well, not me personally. I'm not a Wonder Woman fan. But I assume people who are fans wouldn't like that an Americal Idol reject gets the role not for her acting ability, but simply because she was on a popular reality show.

I've got no interest in the movie, no matter who they cast as the lead. But I think the producers better take the movie seriously and hire a name, and not some singer wannabe.

Duh. Everyone's 'up' for the role. But only ONE can get it.
And since no one knows who Joss is looking at right now, EVERYONE is rumored to havr the role -- even a returning Linda Carter.

How do you know she wouldn't get her role based on acting ability? I think it's perfectly believable that maybe she test screened and maybe she was really excellent.
I realize people would be skeptical of her though since From Justin to Kelly wasn't exactly a masterpiece. ;)
I have no idea if she can act but I'd be willing to give her a shot.
I'm skeptical of the movie for a completely different reason. That reason? Joss Whedon. I know most people love him but I'm not a fan. I think he's overrated. Buffy was a so-so show and Angel outright sucked. Firefly also blew IMO. I wasn't sorry to see that show get canceled. I haven't seen Serenity but it's probably exactly like the show except I suppose the production values are most likely better.

I sincerely doubt it.
They should just let Joss pick who he wants, or at least throw him someone with some acting credibility.

If Bullock was seriously "in talks" to play Wonder Woman, that's bull-fucking-shit, because they reportedly passed on Monica Belluci aka "Wonder Woman in the fucking flesh" because she was "too old."
http://home.comcast.net/~ivychat/monica-bellucci.jpg
jesus christ, if this isn't Princess Diana, then life as I know has been a total lie...............................aight, maybe it's not that bad, but still.....damn.....
oh yeah, and Linda Carter should play Diana's mother.
quick thought:
Right now is the BEST time to be a Wonder Woman fan since the 70s.
The Wonder Woman in JLA has New York Times best selling author Brad Metzer writing it. The first issue last week was amazing.
The main Wonder Woman book has Allen Heinseberg writing it, he's a big time Hollywood writer for the OC.
And All Star Wonder Woman has Adam Hughes creating it (due out next year), so it should be great.
The bottom line with all this is that if the story is good, it will sell, that's the one thing I've figured out about Wonder Woman, it's the one thing I've figured out about every character.
I can understand people who don't think Joss Wheddon is that great. I personally liked Buffy, didn't really care for Angel, and liked Serenity. However, and let me just say this, his Astonishing X-men is one of the finest books out on the market. He knows the x-men, and he understands them SO well, it's uncanny. I'm confident he can deliver the same thing for WW.
Let me tell you what I mean. So, I'm reading the last issue of Astonishing, and Wheddon totally gets MY favorite x-men: Kitty Pryde (for the record, she's Wheddon's favorite character too). Kitty is Wolverine's little buddy for a reason, Logan lets her hang out with him, when he doesn't hang out with the other x-men, for a very good reason. Kitty learned from Wolverine, she learned that it's not always the biggest dog that wins the fight, but it's the one who doesn't give up. Kitty will bite and claw and scratch and kick, but eventually, you'll get tired, and she'll win. So, the Hellfire club takes out the x-men, and leaves only Kitty, the "least dangerous" of the group. She has the most useless power, and the Hellfire club isn't afraid of her. Emma Frost has stabbed the x-men in the back, and taken up with the club. Bad move, Emma pissed off the wrong chick. The strange thing is, that for an x-fan like me, we've seen this before. During Dark Phoenix (Uncanny x-men, I believe #131) The Hellfire club wipes out the x-men, and leaves only Wolverine, the "least dangerous" x-men alive, he has this really cool pose in a cave, before the issue ends. In the last issue of Astonishing, Kitty gets that same moment. As a fan, Wheddon has done such a good job of setting up the story, telling it, and executing it, we all know Kitty is going to clean up the Hellfire club, might take another issue, might take three, but we know it's going to happen.
i think the Wonder Woman movie will come out the same way. For the record, I don't buy the rumor in this thread, I think Wheddon will get an established actress with talent, who is still relatively unknown. I look at the Batman Franchise getting Christian Bale, the Superman franchise getting Routh, and the Spidey franchise getting Maguire, and I'm thinking someone along those lines for Wondy. However, I do think expectations for this film will be low. I think that with Superman coming in under expectations, with Spiderman coming soon, and Batman coming next, I expect Wonder Woman expectations to be very low. I don't expect very many people will be that hyped to go see it (no anticipation? That's accurate), however, I think this movie will be much better than a lot of people expect. How that will translate into overall sales, and BO, I don't know.

thumbs DOWN on Bellucci!! She's waaaay too old. And so is Bullock even though I absolutly love her.
I will support this movie to the point of buying multiple tickets and being in line opening night if they would only come to their senses and just cast Evangeline Lily already!!!! Perfect for the role, right age, etc. If she looses the role i will have a serious problem with hollywood...

jesus christ, the fuck do you mean "waaaaaaaaay too old?" Bellucci is 42, a year younger than Brad Pitt, for example. and she's a model, so i'm guessing she'll also age pretty well. but it's not they'll be trying to build a franchise, just probably 2-3 movies, then the all anticipated JLA film.

but u did however make a good point. Lily would be my second choice.

Thank you for your sanity Gray! ;) Sorry if I offended you with my comment about Bellucci's age... I just personally pictured WW being played by someone younger than her. That and I'm incredibly hell bent on Lily being cast so I'm a little hostile towards any other candidates.
One other thing since we've kinda branched into another 'who should play WW besides a former American Idol star' thread, my friend suggested Rhona MItra.

Indeed. Raped by an invisible Kevin Bacon and played opposite Jim Caviezel in Highwaymen. Not to mention, as Hack put perfectly, very pleasing to look at. :)

The Sandra Bullock talk was legit... several years ago when Joel Silver had the movie. And once upon a time Leonardo DiCaprio was to star in American Psycho.
Personally, Wonder Woman has got to be the lamest concept ever. It will probably end up like Charlie's Angels.

You're not the first person who thought that, so let me give you another couple of quick thoughts.
-In 1955, the entire comic book industry tanked, as sales plummetted. The reason? A congressional investigation led by a nut-job with an axe to grind (the normal spiel: "comics are destroying our kids"), who will not be named because doing so disgusts me. At the time, in 1955, the industry was thriving, and the late golden age had seen an explosion of styles, after Congress got involved, and public pressure drove most publishers out of business, including the company that would become Marvel comics, and many of the early marvel characters, like namor and Captian America, disappeared for awhile. In fact, everyone went out of business, and there were only three comic books left standing. During the dark years (1955-1960) there were only three books coming out with all new issues and stories: Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman. No concept could have survived that era unless it was absolutely great, only the best of the best got through the late fifties. WW is iconic, a giant corporation, in her own right (just like Supes and Bats are, DC execs have joked that the reason why Green Lantern isn't in the "big three" is because he doesn't sell as much underwear as WW does, merchandising is a very real consideration, and WW, merchandising-wise, is a much more recognizable, and profitable, brand than anyone outside of Supes-Bats-Spidey).
- as for the movie itself, and casting, what Wheddon really needs is the next Linda Carter, that's the real ticket. Linda Carter had it all, she was good looking (obviously helps), she looked like a goddess, and she looked like she could kick your ass. That's what the new WW needs to project. At the moment of going to press, Baccarrin is still my choice, but I wouldn't be disappointed with Lilly at all.

Just because she made it through the fifties and is famous doesn't mean it's any good.

I think the point that soda was getting at (and correct me if I'm wrong here soda) is that WW and all the ideas that came along with the her idea were good enough to keep going strong through those rough parts in the fifties and therefore are original enough and strong enough that maybe, just maybe the movie could kick ass. I am, personally, extremely excited for this movie to be made. I think that in light of some of the very well made comic movies made (keyword there is some) such as X-Men, X2, and Superman Returns (sue me, I liked it), there is extreme potential for Wonder Woman. If they don't cast her right into the ground and ruin the whole idea...

First, I highly recommend you see Serenity. :) Second, I agree that Whedon is kind of an aquired taste in directors. Angel sucked, but I think rather highly of the rest of his work and I think that he could do well with the project. My ideal vote would actually be for Bryan Singer. I really like his directing methods.
BTW, thank you to soda for that peice of trivia about the comic. I didn't know that and thought it was very interesting.

Oh yeah, I forgot she was in that. She was also 'raped' by Kevin Spacey in Life of David Gale. She has an English accent but I doubt that would be a problem. I guess from what I know of her she was one of the finalist to play Lara Croft but lost to Angelina of course. Very interesting...

Well, if it is true that they "reportedly passed on Monica Belluci" then that means that they are looking for someone like her but younger. Then there's the widely publicized rumour that Josh Whedon actually offered the role to Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra but she turned him down. Whedon has gone on record to say that he is looking for a "stranger in a strange land" or something to that effect. Being able to speak correct English is not a prerequisite people: Josh is definitely not looking for somebody with an "all American" look and accent. Expect an ethnic looking Wonder Woman folks. Anybody pushing the next Miss Texas as a potential candidate for the Wonder Woman role is way off base.
