ok so Mike Judge has a new release. Its not brand new, its actually been in the can for a few years but ITS OUT NOW. It's called . . .
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0387808/ "Idiocracy" It is a hold your ass together so you don't shit yourself from laughing to much" type of movie! If you don't like laughing or a little poke in the ribs at American society or humanity for that matter; then don't go see "Idiocracy." If you like laughing. like movies, then please do this movie a favor and help its weekend box office numbers by putting your ass in a seat. This movie isn't good how "Snakes On a Plane" was good. This movie is good b/c it's actually funny. LOL funny!!!!!!!!

I had a gut feeling (my gut being my roomate Jason) that this movie would be amazing, so I did what I traditionally do for good movies. If I think a movie is going to be good, I buy one of those delicious movie theater hot dogs and a movie theater nacho cheese dip. I create for myself the supreme ultimate nacho-cheese-dog. It was so worth it. My stomach had that unsettled, unhealthy dinner feeling. My laughter was squeezing my insides into all different types of shapes and what this created was P E R F E C T I O N.

My mind is blown, if you love yourself you will go see this movie!

I caught it on Friday, I went to go watch Crank, but then I saw Idiocracy up on the showtimes board thing and I knew there was no way in hell a Mike Judge film would take a backseat to pretty much anything.

I thought the movie was absolutely hilarious. Nothing better than a punch to the neck at what our society it becoming (albeit exaggerated a bit). I loved all the signs/logos throughout the movie... like 'Enttrins' instead of 'Entrance', oh man, there were so many it was great. And let's not forget the House of Representin'... hahaha. Ah, and the Carl's Jr. machine, probably the funniest scene for me.

Everyone should go watch it.

I'm worried its getting overhyped because its been screwed over by Fox so much.

I would disagree with you completely about this movie being hyped too much. Until a few days ago I haven't seen any advertising whatsoever for this movie. Seems like the only people who went to go see it were cinephiles such as yourself.
If you're going to go see a movie go see it based on the persons previous track record as a film maker or someone you trusts opinion. Don't not see it b/c you think it's too hyped. This isn't Pirates of the Caribbean where yes, ill agree, too much hype. This is a movie that needs your opening weekend box office support!!!!

So now, GO SEE IT

I really want to see it (I've WANTED to see it for over a year) but it's just so damn limited!

Hopefully it has a real quick DVD release, or it expands, something like that.

You should go encourage everyone you know who does live near a lace that the film is screening to go see it. If more people see it right after it opens it will have a wider release. When Napolean Dynamite was first shown, they played it out here in LA and in NYC to see the type of response it would get. Since it did so well opening weekend Im pretty sure that played into the number of theaters the film opened in nationaly.
Based on the turnout I saw in the theater last night id say the film will be on dvd sooner than we would all hope, im just glad on had a chance to see it on the silver screen.

Sorry, I have to disagree with you here.

First off, I’m a huge fan of Mike Judge. BEAVIS AND BUTTHEAD got me through college, and I’m one of the few who can honestly say they saw OFFICE SPACE in the theater on opening night… OFFICE SPACE, of course, is phenomenal.

When I learned IDIOCRACY was playing (unannounced) in a local theater, I jumped at the chance. And it is with a heavy heart that I report…

IDIOCRACY is a crushing disappointment… and 20th Century Fox is probably right for dumping it.

The movie clocks in at barely 80 minutes, and even at 80 minutes this is a one-note joke that goes on far too long.

Luke Wilson is selected (along with hooker Maya Rudolph) to be frozen for one year in an Army hibernation experiment. 500 years pass and they find themselves in a world dumbed-downed beyond all belief.

Now considered the smartest man in the world, Wilson in named Secretary of the Interior to solve the nation’s crop-growing crisis. People are so stupid in the future that they are using Gatorade to irrigate crops. Wilson suggests they use water instead… and crops begin growing again. If you think this is hilarious satire then this film is for you. The theater I was in watched mostly in silence, punched only by two or three truly funny bits.

IDIOCRACY isn’t awful, but it isn’t especially good either. People will not be quoting any lines from this a la OFFICE SPACE, although I can see a small determined group insisting that this film is some sort of misunderstood masterwork. The truth is, all of the observations about American culture have been done before, in funnier films. It goes without saying that even an average episode of FUTURAMA brings more to the table.

The main issue is that Judge doesn’t know what he’s trying to say. At one point Wilson views the most popular film in the future, a movie called ASS… which is nothing more than a naked ass on screen that provides endless entertainment to the moronic audience. And yet an uncomfortable irony dawned on me watching IDIOCRACY, as I took note that the biggest laughs in my audience were generated by a sequence of a man being repeatedly kicked in the nuts.

Is Mike Judge satirizing the dumbing-down of America, or is he causing it?

P.S. a mod should probably change the name of this thread to the film’s title.

Since it's so limited and has been getting mixed reviews, it's porbably going to be a rental for me.

I really want to see this.
It's playing near me so I may watch it tomorrow.
It's between Half Nelson and this, and I'm sure Half Nelson will be sooooo much better, but I still want to see Idiocracy more.

Considering how badly this movie is being treated by FOX, I'm shocked that this movie isn't a disaster.

Then again, it's hardly the first good movie to be treated like shit. Moonlight Mile and Below are two good movies that come to mind.

I'm not saying this is good, I have no idea but I'm surrised that reviews aren't too bad.

Sounds stupid...

and the best comedy of the decade (so far) remains Zoolander

I've been looking forward to this, but thought it got scrapped. I'm a fan of what Maya Rudolph does and have been getting on the Terry Crewes bandwagon as of late --- both are hilarious.

I'll probably wait to catch this on cable or video though. Judge got my theater dollars on Office Space and B&BDA, but I'm not even seeing this playing anywhere in my area. I do want to catch it, though. Pretty much everything Judge puts out sounds ridiculous on paper, but he makes it work on screen.

I've been wanting to check this film out for a long time. It could be decent, but the plot definately needs something a bit dynamic to it to remain humorous.

... and Zoolander was fucking trash.

Zoolander kicked ass

I dunno about this. Mike Judge is usually kinda hit or miss (Office Space, while a great movie, still has some flat jokes and I can barely watch more than five minutes of Beavis and Butthead now, King of Hill is usually consitstently good, tho) but I'll give it a chance.

And I agree that Zoolander is about the funniest movies have gotten this decade (so far). Any movie that I can watch twice in a row and laugh the whole way through is great.

Wow. Aside from the George Michaels jitterbugs scene, I didn't think the rest of the movie was funny. It just seemed like "Hey, I'm Ben Stiller, and beside me here is my partner Owen Wilson. For the next hour and a half, we're going to make goofy faces and poses. Laugh at us."....... I didn't.

Same with Anchorman, some have told me they thought that was a great comedy for the decade, but to me it was another, "Hey I'm Will Ferrell and I'm talking funny. Laugh at me. Laugh because I'm Will Ferrell. Yes."

I hate to say this because it just came out last year, but I've seen the film over five times and still say that I haven't laughed harder at a comedy in the 2000 era than at The 40 year old virgin. I will still watch that movie and laugh my ass off until they decide to do that stupid song/dance routine.

I disagree with you on Anchorman, I thought that was hilarious. But I agree with you on Zoolander. I didn't like it and I don't get what is so great about the movie. The only parts that I really laughed at were the scenes with David Duchovney. And I guess some of the cameos were decent. But the rest of the movie was eh.

I want to see Idiocracy. I love the premise. Plus, the Beavis and Butthead movie was great (I've only seen a couple of episodes of the show and I didn't care for it) and Office Space was really good too. Infact, the only thing I can think of that Mike Judge has done that I don't like is King of the Hill.
