View Full Version : New Script Idea (One That I'll Probably Actually Finish)

Around the week of July 4th, 2006, me and some of my buddies traveled up to Michigain to attend my graduation party. One night while up there, me, my friend Joe, and my other friend Sam stood outside on the sidewalk in front of my grandparent's house. We had previously came up with an idea to scare the hell out of Joe's (now ex-) girlfriend since she was afraid of clowns. We were going through some elaborate schemes to freak her out when we started talking about making a movie.

Joe has been wanting to persue making an indie film for some time, so me and Sam chimed in with some general ideas before I came up with a true 'gem' that began to materialize into a huge idea that we all came up with:

Jesus being a homosexual, who harbors feelings towards a strung-out Satan.

So take this moment to bash me about making up this out there idea.

Are you done?

Now, what started off as that simple line has turned into a huge venture for us. Throwing in some of the things we love and want to discuss (religion, relationships, sexuality, growing up), I've been working hard on a script that we plan on shooting sometime in the next year or so after Joe experiments more with various cameras and I try to strengthen my writing skill.

The bad thing is that the script isn't done yet (about 65 pages out of 95), and the plot still has a few holes in it, so bear with me on the idea:

Malcolm is a nineteen year old slacker who wants nothing more than to get through his post-high school life. But when his girlfriend gives him the choice of drugs or her, he is forced to deal with the fact that he is actually an adult now. Anthony, his roommate and fellow stoner, isn't doing so well either. Still harboring feelings for an ex-girlfriend, Anthony drowns his sorrows in alcohol, drugs, and attempted suicide.

But that all changes when Anthony's cousin passes away and he recieves a box of old records. In an attempt to cheer Malcolm up, he decides to play one.

Unbeknownst to both of them, the record summons Satan to the material world. Forced to deal with their new friend (who, like them, is a stoner with a knack for a special type of chicken sandwhich), the events of the film follow the two's journey through the rest of the day. Can they survive the new addition to their group?

So yeah, it doesn't sound like much. More like a simple comedy but with the fact that Satan has been thrown in. Some of you are probably asking why this is even in the horror filmmaking/screenwriting section. Well, the basic synopsis doesn't explain (nor get into detail), a following zombie outbreak that is unwillingly unleshed into Malcolm and Anthony's neighborhood. (Satan calls it, 'a present to them for summoning him'.) Nor the fact that we have Jesus Christ doing kung-fu and tossing crosses at our heroes.

No, the script it not serious. We aren't the kind of people to make a serious film just yet. Mainly, we just want to see if it'll actually work.

And more importantly, we just want to see if we can pull some of the shit off. With some of the ideas (Jesus Christ being a closet homosexual!?!?!), we are bound to get bashed by religious groups if they find out about this. (In fact, we've already been bashed around here about it.)

But, in reality, it's not about how the characters are portrayed but some of the messages we are trying to get across with it. I know I seem like an arrogant prick talking like this idea really means a lot, but all of it really comes from our lives. Throughout the script the two main characters question religion, the meaning of life, and love.

Ok, I'm just trying to suck my own wang. Just think of the film as Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle mixed with Dogma mixed with Shaun of the Dead mixed with Office Space (sort of). Chances are we are just getting ahead of ourselves and not make the film, but it's looking pretty bright right now.

Anyway, share what you think about it. Criticism is welcomed, as are new ideas and other stuff. Just keep in mind that we were stoned as well when we came up with this. I'll post some of the script when it gets really polished.
