I can't stand how people keep over anylizing movies! Every movie you see is not going to be the next best movie of all time! RELAX people!

So many people have had bad things to say about movies like Crank and Snakes On A Plane. Those movies were meant to be fun and entertaining. Not profound and earth shattering.

What ever happend to just going to the movies and having fun?! You cant have fun if your constantly inspecting movies for flaws. Why do people feel the need to pick apart every- little- thing in a movie? It just gets on my last nerve! I love movies soooooooo much. I love watching a variety of movies. That's what makes 'em so great, is there's so many different kinds.
Just sit back, relax and enjoy the show!
I just had to get that out.

Oh well, I guess everyone's a critic, right?:p

Why settle for something that's just entertaining when you can have that's entertaining, intelligent and meaningful?

There are tons of no-brain flicks out there that I enjoy...and I mean tons, but the problem is that there are much more out there that are absolutely terrible and deserve to be ripped apart. This is a movie discussion board, afterall.

All movies (including SOAP and Crank) havefans and people who dislike the film. Even the greats like Citizen Kane or 2001 have lovers and haters of all types...it's just human nature to form an opinion.

I get what you're saying. I mean, I happen to probly be one of the few that hate Clockwork Orange. But I'm not about to anylize the reasons why and get all high and mighty about it, like some people I've seen. It's ok, ofcourse, to have your own opinion. It's just not productive in my opinion to get so worked up about it. That takes all the fun out of the whole movie experience.
But I guess I just look at movies in a different way. I want to write movies myself on day. So I will try and watch as many different kinds of movies as I can. Even if the movies is bad, I will stay, so I know what not to do when I write my script.

I've read like ten posts lately that said the exact same thing, so you are definitely not alone. If anything, us Clockwork fans are now the minority.

Anyway, I overanalyze movies and I have no problem with it. Snakes on a Plane bugged the hell out of me because I can't stand it when movies have music videos in the credits. I know that's more OCD that it is simple overanalyzing, but it drives me crazy.

Crank, on the otherhand, was badass and all the overanalyzing in the world couldn't let me give it a bad review.

one of the key differences was that SoaP slowed down long enough towards the third act that it gave you time to think about what was going on, thus relaxing enough from those brilliant lower-level kills to the rather ho-hum first-class sequences. Crank never gave you time to think. it moved along like a freight train on meth and you either adored every second of it or you recoiled in disgust.

I'm all for having fun at the movies, but if I think the movie sucks - I'm not having fun. It's all opinions - whether I'm nitpicking or not. I thought SoaP sucked for the most part, and I gave my reasons when I wrote a critique on it - I didn't have fun watching it, I was too busy groaning at how bad it was. I thought Crank was a fun movie - and I said so.

I don't think it's as simple as liking a movie or hating a movie. I like some movies more than others; when I discuss movies on this board or others, I'll explain why. People can call it nitpicking if they want, but in the end, it's just reasons why I didn't like it - or why I did like it. Sometimes it's the little things in a movie that make me like it or hate it when the credits start rolling.

My mini-review for CRANK:
"CRANK is the most over-the-top, completely psychotic, grittily slick, hilariously deranged, whacked-out, insanely violent, nudity-filled, outright fucking awesome non-stop, action-packed kickass 90 minutes ever put on film.

Sure, it's also incredibly stupid, but when you've got everything I just listed above, does that really matter?

Even better than SNAKES ON A PLANE."

My not-so-mini-review for SNAKES ON A PLANE:
"This movie was so freakin' snakes on a plane. I mean, that says it all right there. When something is totally kick-ass, you just gotta label it with the phrase "snakes on a plane". From this point on, that's just gonna be how it is. Get used to it.

Seriously though folks, snakes on a plane. There's a plane, and it's got snakes on it. I mean, c'mon, snakes on a plane. Is there really anything more?

Yes. Yes there is.

Snakes on a plane.

And Samuel L. Jackson.

Samuel L. Jackson on a mutha fuckin' plane. With snakes. Mutha fuckin' snakes, that is.

Hmmm. Well, what else is there to tell? If you're like me, the only intention you had by watching this film was to have a damn good time while enjoying loads of snakes attacking people in the most campy, B-movie way possible... on a plane. This movie delivers.

As long as you don't go in with expectactions for a great, mainstream action-thriller, this movie shouldn't dissapoint.

It's supposed to be hokey. It's supposed to be cheesy. It's supposed to be cliched, and silly, and outrageous. You just gotta have fun with it for the film to work.

The only dissapointment I had was with the underwhelming climax. There could've been a lot done to make the movie finish with a bang, but instead it just sort of fizzles out. Jeez. There was, like, 10 surviving victims too many. What's up with that??? Hrmph. Well, aside from that, the movie definitely lived up to the hype. After all, snakes on a plane. That's right. Snakes on a plane."

Yeah, so basically, both movies were awesome. I don't think it matters how much analyzing you do - both movies set out to be as outrageously entertaining as possible, and both succeeded. Other great examples include films like RUNNING SCARED, CON AIR, TRANSPORTER 2, and UNDERWORLD: EVOLUTION.

Snakes on a Plane had a stupid 1st act, a decent (but not great) second act and a stupid third act.

Bottom line, Snakes on a Plane was a major disappointment and despite a fun middle portion, it wasn't nearly as much fun as it thought it was and that I was hoping.

Crank on the otherhand, was the REAL guilty pleasure of 2006. A total blast and loads of fun from the wicked cool opening scene to the totally awsome final shot. I LOVED it.

Snakes on a Plane was dull. Crank was done with style and finesse. Both are vying to be dumb fun, but IMO, only one of them succeeds at the fun part. And that's definately Crank.

I don't recall there being any nudity at all in Crank... A public fucking scene, but no nudity.

If memory serves, there were tons of tits shots spread throughout. Not from Amy Smart, mind you, but just random girls topless in the background.

Can anyone confirm this? 'Cause maybe I'm just remembering what I want to remember. Heh heh.

Yeah, and weren't there also a bunch of nude chicks in like some plastic bubbles or something? I also thought I remembered seeing some nudity in a club-type setting during the early parts of the film...

So the fuck what? A movie can be meant to be fun and entertaining and still be an egregious pile of shit.

Oh yea, true... But I wouldn't exactly call the movie "filled" with nudity... I was just thinkin' Amy Smart, but we got to see her titties in Road Trip anyhow :p

I guess the nudity is the last thing I remember when I think back on watching Crank...

I hate when people justify SOAP by saying if I just realized that the movie was not meant to be important but silly fun then I would have loved it. Ummm no I realize the movie was supposed to be silly and fun and it was still mediocre. Ill take Crank any day for a silly over-the-top B film.
