Alright people, I don't know if this topic has already been done, but it doesn't matter if it has because as I've learned over the years, people never get tired of praising the ever so talented Mr. Pacino. So, if you would be so kind as to give me your opinion on what you think is his best performance ever, it would be greatly appreciated.

I reeeeallly loved him in Dog Day Afternoon, however I feel I might be publicly beaten if I do not mention his wonderful performance as everyone's favorite good son, Michael Corleone.

Well, obviously his best performances come from The Godfather Trilogy, especially the second one. He's also great in Dog Day Afternoon, Carlito's Way, Scent of a Woman, and is back in form with Insomnia.

That's a tough one, since he's my favorite living actor. If I had to pick one as my favorite, I'd probably say the first Godfather, just because his character goes through such incredible changes in the movie and he plays it so perfectly.

His best performance ever? Hmm. I dunno, his roles in Godfather 1-3 were all superlative, as he was in Serpico (which I'm saddened so few ppl remember), Dog Day Afternoon, and Scarface. In the second tier of his performances I'd put ...and Justice For All, Scent of a Woman, Glengarry Glenn Ross, Carlito's Way, and Donnie Brasco. I'm not sure I could pick one as his single finest performance...probably in Godfather 1 or 2.

1.) Michael Corleone -The Godfather Trilogy
2.) Sonny -Dog Day Afternoon
3.) Carlito Brigante -Carlito's Way
4.) Frank Serpico -Serpico
5.) Tony Montana -Scarface
6.) Lefty Ruggiero -Donie Brasco
7.) Frank Slade -Scent of A Woman
8.) Lowell Bergman -The Insider
9.) Ricky Roma -Glengarry Glen Ross
10.) Vincent Hanna -Heat

None of his separate performances in The Godfather films top that of Dog Day Afternoon, but combined, Pacino created the greatest male character in cinema history. He's desrved an Oscar twice, for Dog Day Afternoon and Carlito's Way (each year of a Godfather film, someone else was better). As the years went on he's gotten more over the top (besides Donnie Brasco), his performances in Heat, Devil's Advocate, and Scent of A Woman were all a bit overboard, yelling as acting, but they were still Pacino, and Pacino's always good as a minimum. One of my top three actors of all time.

Wow, not much love for Arthur Kirkland in ...And Justice For All. I think that's one of my favorites. He has a tendency to overact some.

Any one remember the movie "Cruising"? This movie absolutely got buried at the time of release, but I think that was more for the controversial subject matter. I thought he gave a pretty good performance here considering the nature of the film. Other than that I can't think of any that haven't been listed above.
