The one that best represents this type of film for me would have to be Once Upon a Time in the West

The next films on the list that come to my mind are Rolling Thunder, the Killer Elite, The Bravados, Cape Fear (orginal), Naked Spur, Mad Max, Kill Bill Vol.1 and Kill Bill Vol.2. I'm missing a sleuth of films. There just not coming to me right now, but I know your guys will refresh my memory.

I think it's funny for a guy named Philip Marlowe to misuse the word Sleuth. But, that's OK.

Ain't nobody, in all of movie history and movie future, gonna top Charles-motherfucking-Bronson!

D.E.A.T.H. W.I.S.H.

The king of all revenge movies.

And remember Mr. Marlowe: "Dead men are heavier than broken hearts."

What about Braveheart? In a sense it's sort of a revenge movie. As is Gladiator. My personal favorite revenge flick is Man on Fire.

Once Upon A Time In The West, Kill Bill, & Dead Man's Shoes come immediately to mind.

D.E.A.T.H. W.I.S.H.

WOW that's a glaring omission.

ilovemovies
Lucky Number Slevin
V for Vendetta
RoboCop

Spoliers even thou I got the twist in Slevin early on, that for me at least made it even more of a revenge film.

Shockwave
HIGH PLAINS DRIFTER

I've always felt like "The Drifter" was some form/repsentation of his spirit brought back from the dead to exact vengeance and justice upon those who have wrong him. Like a spirit the can not rest until all have been payback. What a Fuckin pick defaintly a contender for spot #1.

Cronos
Oldboy

particularly cause I just resently watch this one. Pretty messed up if I do say so.

Another 2 BIG one's that I left out The Crow and Point Blank(Marvin).

Everything you guys listed

adding "The Protector". Fun movie.

In a sense, The Godfather and Goodfellas are partly revenge in the flicks.

I actually love those movies...the 90's Batman series is probably one of the best animated shows ever.

I liked Payback - has a cool level of kickass in it. Not my favorite, but definitely worth mentioning.

Gotta agree with most of the flicks that've been picked, but uh.... has anyone except Philip Marlowe seen THE CROW!! great fucking film(one of my all time favs) very surprised only 1 person has mentioned it yet. I think Straw Dogs definitely deserves a mention aswell.

Straw Dogs, defaintly. They eruption of violence at the end is still haunting. Great choice.

As for Payback, I haven't seen it yet, but I did mention the film that it was remade from Point Blank starring Lee Marvin. And if you dug Mel in the role then you'll love Lee even more.

Get Carter is another premuim choice.

I can't believe I forgot about Payback and Four Brothers. Those are VERY solid flicks!

And Desperado would be on my list if it weren't for the rather disappointing and anticlimatic ending.

I personally loved Straw Dogs too but is it really a revenge film? David's not getting revenge for something at the end he's simply defending his home and whats right from an invasion.

All killer pics. Monte Cristo was great and the trailer made the film look so bad. I waited a long time before renting it and was more then pleasently surprised.

I've been meaning to check this out, but I've heard that it was ultimately a disappointment in the long run.

I don't feel like making a big list at the moment or repeating my favorites that others have already listed, so I'll just pleasantly add Falling Down to this list. Michael Douglas does a great job at playing a man who completely loses it and gets his revenge on society, itself.

Oh, and Kill Bill (as a whole: 1 + 2) is ultimately my favorite revenge movie ever...and my ultimate favorite flick of all time. With both movies together, it is nothing short of an epic that takes the best things about early revenge movies (especially from the Kung-Fu and Western genres) and exploitation flicks and glorified them beyond belief.

Memento and Mystic River are at the top for me.

zeppelin

#2, 3, 6, and 10 on my list aren't based entirely on revenge-type plots, but it is an essential part of the movies, so I'll include them.

1. Once Upon a Time in the West
2. Boyz N the Hood
3. Sleuth
4. Memento
5. Kill Bill: Volume 2
6. 21 Grams
7. For a Few Dollars More
8. Sin City (Marv's story)
9. The Lion King
10. Mystic River

I probably could have counted Batman Begins, since vengeance is a huge motive in his becoming Batman in the first place, but I didn't for whatever reason.

And I'm pretty surprised no one has yet mentioned any version of Hamlet, since it's pretty much the revenge story that all other revenge stories are modeled after. But I personally haven't liked any movie version enough to include it on my list.
