What can i say about my newly purchased Sleepaway camp Box set other than awesome. If you like 80's b-movie camp than look no further than this box set. I put the first one on last night just to watch something before i fell asleep, the next thing i know it's the end of the movie. It kept me interested from start to finish. The other two movies are even better with creative death scenes, some of the best i've ever seen in horror. The special features are pretty good but even without the features these movies stand on their own. The only thing creepier than Angela in the first movie is when they show her Aunt. The scene with the aunt in the beginning is so creepy it always gives me chills watching it. For the people who have scene this movie know what i'm talking about. It's a small scene but very effective. I recommend this dvd to any horror fan.

I own this set, and I think the third is actually the best, in terms of kill scenes and how hot Pam Springsteen looks. Then I would say the second and first are behind that. The first has a very creepy vibe, though, with WAY too many lingering shots of young boys playing sports and maybe the most fucked up ending ever.

Here is some interesting facts about the DVD set and the films from the Sleepaway Camp website:
This is the definitive listing of cut scenes and shots from the Sleepaway Camp series. If any other extra scenes are listed elsewhere on the internet, I would strongly consider them bogus.
Sleepaway Camp
No gore was cut. The movie passed the MPAA board with an R.
Alot more footage of the baseball game was shot then was shown, some of it can be heard in the opening title sequence of the film.
Sleepaway Camp (Anchor Bay DVD)
*In the prank scene when Mozart's face hits the kid's naked ass, the slap sound effect is missing and then his "You guys are gross" line is out of synch with his lips.
*A shot of the naked guys running down the dock is completely missing replaced by a weird over-dubbed cat howl.
*The watersnake slithering out of Kenny's mouth is cut drastically to the point where you only see the final few frames of the shot after the snake has emerged.
*After Mel accosts the guys for throwing water ballons at Angela and Ricky and Paul tend to her, a shot of the guy's reaction to Mel leaving is cut, where one calls him a "wrinkled old dick".
*After Ricky sticks his finger up at Judy and walks off, a shot of Judy coming back with"Same to you" is gone.
*Many frames of Meg's corpse on the bathroom floor are cut, and Mel's reaction is cut up too - "He did it" should be followed by "to get back at me".
Sleepaway Camp 2: Unhappy Campers
*An alternate version of forest sex was shot with Ally clothed just in case the MPAA wouldn't let the naked version fly.
*Some dialogue was cut from the scene with Molly and Angela sitting outside the abandoned cabin for pacing reasons.
*Sean's decapitation was cut for being too gory, but can be seen on the DVD in the behind-the-scenes footage.
*The originally planned song for the end titles by Ravenstone. It too can be found in completed form on the DVD.
*The German language Director's Cut is merely the American R version. There is no true Director's Cut of SC2.
Sleepaway Camp 3: Teenage Wasteland
*A longer scene of Maria walking down the street, and Angela passes her!
*While sitting waiting for the camp van, Angela is bemused at a hulking tall Heavy Metal Dude that passes.
*A slow pan down Angela's lovely bod before Peter throws down the firecrackers.
*A longer scene of Herman flirting with Jan. More of his Playboy belt posturing then Lilly catches him in the act and orders him back by her side.
*A longer exchange between Lilly and Snoboy about why the girls and boys can't sleep together.
*Anita gets sick of the talk about Angela Baker and leaves the girl's cabin to go to the bathroom.
*An extended scene of the girls leaving their cabin, leaving Angela behind.
*Lilly hands Barney a map and asks where Anita is, Marcia tells her.
*Lilly asks where Anita is, Marcia says she went to the bathroom.
*Longer walking into the woods for Barney's group.
*Before Bobby is killed he makes a remark, thinking Angela is going to get a condom, showing just how stupid he really is even when he's about to be killed.
*Almost every death scene was trimmed of its gore, impact and/or length. These can all be found as a featurette on the DVD along with the original extended ending.
BTW-I purchased the box set when it 1st hit, with the RED CROSS logo before the re-issued cover change (due to the threat of a law suit) which made the 1st print a collectors item!

yeah, i have the red cross edition too.
i love it to death. the sleepaway camp films are some of the only movies I can watch year after year and they never get old.
and i'm sorry guys but sleepaway camp 2 and 3 don't hold a candle to the original. The original is just so creepy/campy/crazy. i consider it a masterpeice, while the 2nd and 3rd are simply campy fun.
I really need to pick this up. I haven't watched any of the Sleepaway Camp's in so long, it would be a lot of fun to go back and check these out again.

This set was released over 4 years ago and you just now purchased it? Shame on you.

The 2 sequels are unbelievably entertaining. They are like gory versions of Salute your Shorts.

Hey, don't be too hard on them, after all, they are an "infant" schmoe. Let's just give them credit for picking up a vital horror box set.
And zuniman... yes I am just kidding, welcome aboard.

Great set indeed. Seems like just about everyone prefers the sequels though. I love the sequels but I thought Sleepaway Camp being a serious horror movie worked really well. I think most schmoes think it is lame.
Thanks for that listing the dead one. I have the same Red Cross box set as you! I'm glad I picked it up when I did... the day it came out. I was really looking forward to it and went to Best Buy immediately. It also has the bonus fourth disc of Return to Sleepaway Camp which although it is pretty crappy was still a nice addition. At least Anchor Bay actually CARES about the consumer.
Well thats all for now GOoD JOURNEY my fellow schmoes.

I haven't said much about these films even though I own the boxset. They're just not top of the pops for me. I do agree though that the first works as a serious horror film. It has very little gore but the limited story somehow does enough to keep you going. The ending is superb and cannot be faulted for good old fashioned schlock horror!
I dislike the sequels. They only succeed as dumbass "take the piss and drink beer with your mates" movies. There's fun to be had with them, but they suck by anyone's standards. PAMELA SPRINGSTEEN is fucking terrible in both! I desperately wanted her to die!
Do you guys know that PARTS 2 and 3 were released in the UK under the titles NIGHTMARE VACATION 1 and 2? They existed separately from the original.

Really? How odd. I agree with you with Pamela Springsteen. I think most people prefer her to Felissa Rose but I found her chipper attitude to be annoying. I think Angela worked better with her quiet solitude which is one of the reasons why I prefer the original. People call it dumb but for me it worked. Well thats all for now GOoD JOURNEY my fellow schmoes.

Nothing beats the original. Nothing. But yes, the two sequels are entertaining as f**k. The first more so than the second.
Region-free DVD player owners should seek out UK's trilogy box set from Anchor Bay, as it contains all the deleted scenes from the first film in good quality widescreen as an easter egg. It also contains more audio options for all three films, but the video quality is inferior to the R1 box set.

Sleepaway camp was amazing. It was hilarious! It was scary, gory, and also I was cracking up over the 80's clothes those people were wearing. I mean, did men actually wear cut off jean shorts THAT SHORT?

As a teen in the '80s, I can say definitely...No. They were shorter, but not Daisy Duke short.
Half-shirts though, that's a different story.
