I saw it today, and I thought it was good. I did not love it or anything but it was a good movie. It did not get reviewed by many critics sides ew, ebert, and joblo.
My grade: 7/10
did anyone else see it...?
did ya like it? did ya hate it?

This evening The Rookie was the first movie on my own private double feature (we snuck into Panic Room afterwards). The Rookie is what it is - well made but predictable. Some details were confusing (I thought he had two children, then a third one pops up unexpectedly), but overall it was a pleasant, inoffensive movie.
SPOILER
As a baseball fan, my favorite moment was the Devil Rays' defensive errors during The Big Game. Anybody who follows the sport would recognize the authenticity of this scene (God, that team sucks), and it was great to see familiar names (Boggs, Canceco) on the jerseys hanging in the locker room, as well as shots of the gorgeous Arlington ballpark, home of the Texas Rangers.
But you know what would have been cool? Since the Durham Bulls make an appearance, why didn't Costner take this role? It'd be a nice touch for the parents in the audience, and Costner could make us forget the debacle that is For Love of the Game.
Long story short (too late), Ebert nails another movie. With attractive actors and an inoffensive script, The Rookie is a competent but unspectacular film.

It was alright, but nothing special. It went on for way too long, and it was kind of boring. Dennis Quaid is really the only good thing in the movie. The Rookie is not a very interesting movie at all. And BTW, I really think it's time to lay off the baseball movies. They're really getting old.
Grade: 6.5/10

WTF?!? Why the fuck did you go to this movie then??? How many baseball movies come out in a year, compared to those movies where shit blows up for two hours?? You went to see a movie called The Rookie. What were you expecting - a rerelease of the Clint Eastwood/Charlie Sheen flick??? There hasn't been a decent baseball movie in years, so what's so "old" about them???

First of all, I think you should calm down. Second, I went to see this movie because I was expecting a great baseball movie. I didn't get that. Third, it doesn't matter to me if there's hardly any baseball movies released each year. There are loads of baseball flicks out there, and we don't need any more with the same motherfucking cliche story over and over again. That's why they're getting "old". And BTW, you have a right to your opinion, and I have the right to disagree. So try not to get so upset next time. Remember the saying: "To Each His Own" .
