Sean Penn's All The King's Men

James Cameron's Titanic

Brian DePalma's SCARFACE

Spielberg's War of the Worlds

Any Texas Chainsaw Massacre Remake

Peter Jackson's 2005 KING KONG

The original Titanic was made in 1953, but I don't think it qualifies as a remake.

John Carpenter's The Thing

From your list I'm going to say DePalma's Scarface.

I thought remake of King Kong by John Guillermin was pretty good also.

None of the films on the list are as good as the originals, but the best film on the list is Cape Fear.

Spielberg's War of the Worlds

Just because it's completely different from the original, but managed well to do what it set out to do.

Of Mice and Men with Gary Sinise and John Malkovich. Great movie!

Oops, my bad. I didn't realize we had to choose from the list.

From the list I choose Titanic, although some are saying it doesn't count. If it doesn't then I choose King Kong.

Of coarse when I see The Departed I'm sure that will end up being my choice. But for now, Titanic (or King Kong).

THE THING
SCARFACE
KING KONG

THE THING

It takes what was and improves it ten-fold.

Most of the remakes on that list rock, but since the orignals do as well its a hard choice.

For me the best remake iver ever seen NOT on the list is HILLS HAVE EYES, since i HATTTTTTED the original and loved the remake.

WILLARD, THE RING and DAWN 04 are good ones as well, but once again, with the originals kicking ass its a hard choice.

Scarface, defo.

The Departed and King Kong are fucking great as well.

Oceans 11 and Dawn of the Dead are good but not as good as those 3.

I know I might get lynched for saying this, but Assualt on Precinct 13 was quite good for a couple hours worth of action.

I loved the Departed, but never seen the original... Having said that, I'd haveta go with King Kong or Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2003...

the thing

because it doesn't just improve over the original in details but the story as well, Carpenter stook more to the short story, that the original didn't really.

Remake of "The Amityville Horror" i thought was good.
From the list, I would say "the departed!"

How can you even compare the two?

One was a kick ass Hong Kong new wave film. One was an American "let's have 200+ fucks" Scorsese film.

Crazy Dud

King Kong (2005)

Scarface

The Thing

These are remakes that surpass the original.

I haven't seen The Departed yet.

And BTW, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is a pretty good remake. Of course, it was actually a more accurate adaptation of the novel, so I'm not sure it's technically a remake. Still, it's certainly better than Burton's other remake, but please, let us not mention that one. I am finally recovering!:D

From that list, King Kong (10/10) and The Departed (9.5/10)

But the first thing that came to mind (aside from The Departed, just cuz it just came out and all) was Herzog's Nosferatu.

though Infernal Affairs was better, The Departed was an amazing remake. But my top remakes are:

The Departed
John Carpenter's The Thing
Werner Herzog's Nosferatu

King Kong

The Worst by far for me is:
Mr. Deeds

Cooper turned in his grave when that movie showed.

Putting the '98 Godzilla in any "Best Ever" thread is an oxymoron. Unless it's "Best Fuck-Ups of the Source Material"
And for me it's either Scarface or The Thing. The originals are great, but after I watched the remakes, there was no going back.

I would have to say The Departed as its the first remake that I have ever seen that was heads and tails above the original(and I LOVE the original). Although King-Kong is pretty high up there.

I have to say this, as nobody else seems to know, but The Thing was not technically a remake. Yes there was already a previous film of the same name and plot. In reality, though, the newer was more of "a more acurate film based of the same source material." So, its more of a "more recent adaptation" than a true remake. It is like The Fly, (Fucking Amazing Movie) or the new Chocolate Factory in that regard. So, to reiterate, The Thing is not technically a remake.

Sorry to be bitchy and all, its just frustrating how so few people realize that. Great film though.

P.S. Yes I quoted Crazy Dud earlier in my post, I just didnt want to do all the bold shit for half of a sentence.

King Kong is without a doubt the best remake ever. I don't really classify The Departed as a remake, it was more of a culture change and a story based on some of the events that went on in Internal Affairs. It's like The Grudge and Ju-On: The Grudge. But if I did classify it as a remake it would be #1.

Well.. there's a movie call The 300 Spartans back in like 1959... I think that's what he meant, but I don't think it as a remake entirely.
