This had to be the most preposterous trailer I have ever seen. Just loaded with groaners. "They have a hostage!... It's my wife!"
But you know what? I wanna see it.

If The Marine bombs at the box-office, I'll be incredibly happy. However, seeing as John Cena has a lot of child and female fans, it probably will have decent business, and it probably will fair better than Kane's film as well. Anyway, it looks like absolute crap, and I wouldn't see even if I was paid to.
John Cena sucks and is quite talentless.

I agree. Why doesn't he just stick to one job? Does he really need to be a wrestler, rapper AND an actor?
I have no interest in seeing this at all.

Absolutely! It looks like the kind of movie Arnold Schwarzenegger or Sylvester Stallone would have done in the 80's or Jean Claude Van Damme and Steven Seagal would have done in the 90's. I love those guys. Here's hoping John Cena can fill the void of those kind of kickass action hero's!
Oh and not to mention the fact that Robert Patrick, whom I a HUGE fan of, really seems to be having a great time playing the bad guy! It looks like such a fun performance he gives. I'm sure he'll probably end up stealing the movie!

The WWE is laughing at you guys if you pay to see it. It's only a way to make some money and they know it's a piece of shit. Save your money. This is like Steven Seagal Straight-to-TV film.

i saw "See No Evil" the other WWE film, and it was actually an entertaining piece of shit. The acting was horrible, the plot was atrocious, but the deaths and Kane were fun. I expect the same here pretty much, just fun shit.
I'll check it out one day

I do think Kelly Carlson is hot, but this looks to be more so bad it's bad than so bad it's good. Another movie I would have a lot more interest in if it was R instead of PG-13.

The movie looks cool. I just wish the trailer didn't layout the entire movie for your you. It seems to do a very good job of telling how the movie gets from Point A to Point Z and I wish they showed a lot less. Otherwise, yeah, it should have been rated R, but I'm still seeing it. It looks like this years "The Rundown" (which is a good thing).

If it is anywhere near as entertaining as The Rundown, I would be shocked, to say the least. John Cena is no Rock, and Robert Patrick is no Walken.

I have to agree. The Rock and certain other wrestlers, I've never cared about jumping over to acting. The Rock in particular has done very well in the acting realm. But John Cena doesn't even have a personality when he's supposed to be somewhat himself on WWE. That doesn't bode well for action movies, where you have to somewhat rely on your lead's charisma. And c'mon, Robert Patrick hasn't been remotely interesting since Terminator 2. I really don't think James Cameron had to give him the direction to have no emotion in that movie, either, as everything else I've seen him in, he seems to lack it.
Another thing when comparing this to The Rundown, where's the comedic sidekick for the "tough guy" to play off of. That was half the fun right there "Are you through kicking my ass?" That and I don't see two "tough" guys (Cena and Patrick) playing off each other near as well as "tough" The Rock and "quirky" Walken did.

I have no idea about Cena. Haven't seen him in anything.
But Robert Patrick is awsome. He's great. Hasn't been remotely interesting since Terminator 2?! I take it then you never saw any of his episodes of The X-Files. He was great as Agent John Dogget. He has also had memorable roles in Walk the Line, Copland, The Faculty, a TV movie called Perfect Assassins, Ladder 49 and Firewall (even though he was wasted). Finally, he was great in the episode of Lost that he guest starred in.
I'm a HUGE fan of Robert Patrick. Is he as good as Walken? Maybe not quite so much but only because Walken is one of the coolest people on the planet. But Patrick isn't too shabby himself either.
Oh and it really looks he's really enjoying himself in this movie. It looks like such a fun performance he gives in this movie. It really looks like he's relishing in playing the bad guy, and unlike in T2, playing a bad guy who does speak.

Every role you mentioned there he bored me to tears. The guy just does nothing to make me get interested. You were also lax to mention his role in From Dusk Till Dawn 2 (one of the worst movies ever made).
And The X-Files was dead to me after Mulder was "abducted".

As I've already said, Cena is talentless, cannot wrestle for his life, cannot act, cannot rap, cannot crack a funny joke, and has the personality of cheap, rough toliet paper.
This thread is going to allow me to get off a lot of hatred for Cena off my chest. ;)

This shouldn't even be getting a theatrical release. It screams DTV and looks like every Snipes/Seagal/Van Damme movie released in recent years. It should be premiering on Spike before being dumped to video. This Cena dude looks like the worst leading man of all time, at best. Place a stone on top of a headless body and you'd get a performance of similar quality.

I think there's such a thing as "too simple" of an action hero. And that would be Cena.

I saw this because i'm a wrestling fan.
Knowing there was a plot twist toward the end, i went into it trying to figure it out from the start. I was on the right track, but had the wrong guy pegged. I enjoyed the film and the dialogue is pretty entertaining.
Should've been called "explosions on a swamp" though.
By the way, on Oct 15th: John Cena gave Kevin Federline a nice beating on WWE Monday Night Raw. That was worth the price of admission to the card that night!

I can't believe the stuff I am reading on here. It is a movie with a wrestler, it isn't going to be this great movie. It was a good action movie. Let your brain sit at the door and go in and just enjoy the movie. That is what I did. It is cheesy, but in a good way.

Thing is, I'll do that for a movie like Feast, where their intent is like that from the get go, this movie is trying to take itself seriously, and that doesn't work.

I don't think they are taking it seriously. They are trying to hype it up to make money. If you look at the previews, which I liked, it was an old school action movie. Similar to Arnold and comp. Don't expect much from those.

The Marine is a pretty good mindless action movie. I thought the performances were fine with Robert Patrick's being the best. Cena held his own but I don't think he could handle a more challenging role than this. It is refreshing to see a good mindless action film like the ones holywood was putting out in the 80's and early 90's. But all of those were rated R which The Marine should have been. The action was kind of tame and there was no gratuitous nudity which was a staple in 80's action films. An R rating would have allowed the makers of the film to go all out and make a good old school action movie.

Ya know, I knew I was in trouble when before the movie even begins, during the opening credits the movie managed to make me laugh my ass off with the picture of that marine in the title credits. And it gets even worse during the incomprehensibly godawful opening scene which takes place in Iraq. It was draw droppingly bad. And then the scene where Cena has a job as a security guard and gets into a fight with some idiot and gets himself fired. Holy, cow this movie was truly awful. The action sequences were confusingly shot and incompetantly directed. The fight scenes were especially bad. The car chase wasn't too bad actually. But the fight scenes were horrible. And in the begining of the movie when Robert Patrick and his men rob the jewelery store and the cop car comes and they blow it, TERRIBLE scene. This movie has some pretty awful editing as well. I mean, some really amatuerish directing & editing. The action sequences keep getting more absurd and ridiculous as the movie moves along. And the climax is so absurd I was laughing my ass off! John Cena's character isn't human. He's the friggin' Terminator from the stuff his character manages survive.
Somehow, Robert Patrick still manages to give a fairly amusing performance. But it was still embarrassing watching him slum it in this movie. John Cena isn't actually that bad either. Who knows, maybe he'd be okay as an action star with better material. Kelly Carlson looks great. She's very sexy. She isn't given anything to do though of coarse. Apart from those three though the acting is as atrocious as the writing and directing and editing. Seriously, some of the dialogue in this movie is outright painful.
I'll admit that I was never bored and the movie is sometimes entertaining in a so bad it's good kind of way. But mostly this movie just plain sucks. It's hands down on the VERY worst movies of the year.

A couple of things I forgot to mention:
- It's not enough for Cena to go up against just the main bad guys, but there has to be this INCREDIBLY pointless scene where Cena is kidnapped by these two thugs who are doing something illegal and they think he is a cop. It's really just an excuse for some more BAD fight scenes.
and finally this movie has one of the MOST ANNOYING CHARACTERS I HAVE EVER SEEN in a movie with the black guy who is a part of Patrick's men. God, I couldn't wait for that guy to be killed.
And this other pointless cop character as well.
Terrible movie! The trailer made this look like fun but it's just REALLY BAD!

You don't know the half of it. Remember in Terminator 3 during the crane chase sequence and Arnold is hanging on to the firetruck while the TX is driving through buildings. Something similar happens here too. Robert Patrick drives through a store with John Cena hanging on to the truck. Any normal person would have died instantly but Cena miraculously survives driving through all sorts of building structures.
It's HILARIOUS!

Eww, the only thing cooler then John Cena in a total Rambo rip off would be Owen Hart in Corpse Bride Two: Cape of the Blue Blazer. Honestly people, if it doesn’t involve the Macho Man, The Hulkster, or the Million Dollar Man do we really need to pay attention to it. While I’m at it what ever happened to the Honky-tonk Man or even the beloved and Harry Knowles-esque Tug Boat? What happened to my child hood? What the HELL happened?
Spoiler Alert::::::
John Cena is Jigsaw. Yeah I’m disappointed too.
Oh,this would be fun too: 3 Ninjas: High Noon at Mega Mountain. dustin' off the vhs as i speak.

LOL
This was a real howler. But the action sequences, if you can even call them that, were atrocious. It was like, the action starts, and suddenly I can't see anything. That little Iraq scene must have had 200 edits in one minute.
Except for the car chase. That was pretty cool and well done. The rest was pretty bad.
Who left out all these propane tanks? It was like a bad first person shooter or something.
The main problem was it wanted it both ways. A lot of it was clearly tongue in cheek, but then it tried to be all serious too. It would have been better had it embraced its cheesieness.
Boy, did Robert Patrick suddenly start looking old or what?
Oh, and John Cena is a carisma vortex... meaning he has none.
And did anyone notice that you never actually saw someone get killed? Every death happened off screen. I guess that's one iron clad way to get a PG-13 rating. Though that bus death scene was pretty cool.
