Why is it that only Movie-Related rants are allowed?

I had a non-movie related topic shut down completely (which I knew would happen) even though in the short-time it was posted, it generated some discussion. And a couple weeks prior, I had another that generated a great deal of discussion, yet it wasn't shut down. Why? I don't know, but it seemed to get people's interest nonetheless.

Now, the Rant section isn't exactly dying for discussion that I think something needs to be done in order to generate more life into it. Definitely not. But it seems every section of this board all the way from General Movie Talk to Poltics definitely specifies what it's about but the rant section is simply called "Rant, Rant, Rant", yet only movie-related topics are allowed. May I ask why this is? Because I personally think it makes more sense and would be overall better if Movie and Non-Movie related topics that people wanted to rant about were allowed in there.

Afterall, I've seen some things in GMT that could qualify for the Rant section and some things in the Rant section that could qualify for GMT.

;)

Yeah but you have to understand this is a movie board. If you want to rant or discuss issues such as the marriage issue you posted there are a million other websites designed for such talk.

People come here to mainly discuss movies. If things get put in the wrong place they can easily be cleaned up because they are still about movies.

I was one that was interested in your topic on marriage and what not but that's why we have the politics thread. If you posted there no problem.

You've got respect that they want to keep this board about movies for movie fans. There are plenty of other sections to cover nearly all topics.

By the way, if you want to be able to post in the Politics section, you have to email Joblo for permission. Just go there and read the top thread (the sticky) and it'll explain why. Once/if you're allowed to post there, maybe these non-movie rants will be better suited there.

I know it's a movie board but there are plenty of sections that are Non-Movie and it seems that making the Rant section purely about movies when alot of topics in there could probably discussed in other movie sections of the board seemed a bit odd. And I'd rather discuss something of the sort (like the Marriage topic) with members I'm familiar with, not just random people.

Either way, no huge deal but I'm just throwing an interesting idea out there. As for the Politics topic, well, I already sent a E-Mail. They said it might take up to a week to gain access. I haven't gained access yet but it hasn't been a full week yet so I'll just sit back and wait. If it's alright, then I'll just repost that one there once I get in.

BRING BACK THE MISC FORUM.

I mean, just because Brock Landers threatened to commit suicide in a thread and people desperately tried to help him doesn't mean the Misc Forum was nothing but disaster.

Couldn't we have some kind of forum vote on the subject? This is a democracy isn't it? :D :D

Is it?

Misc Forum or not, if you have a pissed off rant to get off your chest (no matter what the subject) I believe it should go in the Rant section.

The popularity of a topic, thread or discussion has NOTHING to do with how we run our site. We can run porno pics all around the boards if we wanted, since that would obviously attract more people, but we choose not to.

The fact is that our board is for MOVIE DISCUSSIONS only. That's it. It's our rule and we've stuck by it since the year 2000 and it seems to be working okay. If you notice other threads that aren't following our rules, please REPORT them to our moderators and they will look into it.

Why is there a politics/books/music/tv forum?

We recognize that MOVIE fans on our board also have other interests, so for that purpose, we opened a few relative topic forums which they would appreciate. I realize that I didn't point those out in my earlier post, but I assumed that folks already knew about them. Never assume... :)

Blogs like MySpace would be good for non-movie rants

I would bet money that Joblo doesn't want people forgetting why he created the board and if he wanted to run a social hangout where people talk about whatever, he'd probably have opened a bar.
