AFI vdid that list of the greatest movies a few years back, and a ton were based off of true life. Can't help but wonder if anyones favorite movie is based off a true story. Or at least what everyones favorite movie based on a true story is.

Goodfellas and Patton are good examples.

And nobody say Dreamer: Based On A True Story

Of course it does. Even if a lot of people claim that a lot of the information in the movie was made up, it's still something that really happened, even if it didn't exactly happen that way. Then again, no movie shows true events EXACTLY as they happened, so I don't see why everyone makes such a big deal over that one.

Here would be my top 10:
1. Bonnie and Clyde
2. Raging Bull
3. Dog Day Afternoon
4. Goodfellas
5. Amadeus
6. Badlands
7. Schindler's List
8. Ed Wood
9. JFK
10. Au Revoir, Les Enfants

I agree with many of the films listed here, except for the ones I haven't seen obviously, and World Trade Center. But here's some that weren't mentioned that are great:

The Pianist (amazing story, great film, inspired me to read the memoirs of Szpillman, which is also an incredible and moving read)

The Insider (Crowe, Pacino, how can you miss?)

Talk Radio (Partly inspired by Eric Bogosian's play, partly inspired by the real-life talk radio show host Alan Berg)

Is Saving Private Ryan based on a true story; yeah, it's based in WWII, but was there a real squad looking for one guy in France?

Yes, kinda - Fritz Niland was one of four brothers : Two were killed on D-Day, while another was MIA (presumed dead, although he survived). Fritz Niland was located in Normandy by an Army chaplain and taken out of combat.
