I know this is a little bit odd but that other thread - the "Pick Your Seven Favorite Male Actors and Their 5 Best" got me wondering which of my more or less ten favorite actors the fine people at JoBlo.com enjoy watching act the most.

So which one? And probably more importantly, why?

Well, out of all those actors I picked Hoffman because of his versatility, but none of those actors have the presence and power that Bogey has.

Based on a combination of star quality, acting talent, sex appeal, and screen presence, here's how I would rank these guys:

1. Humphrey Bogart
2. Robert De Niro
3. Orson Welles
4. Jack Nicholson
5. Jimmy Stewart
6. Gregory Peck
7. Henry Fonda
8. Dustin Hoffman
9. Clint Eastwood
10. Gene Wilder

GREAT list overall, numbers 1-7 are all in my top 10 as well.

Jack Nicholson. The man can do anything. Simple as that.

Jimmy Stewart. Mostly because his characters tend to be top blokes I'd like to buy a beer.

i think that welles and bogart are almost equal. both were smoldering and intense, and their works "stand the test of time".

I went with Bogart, basically because he's my favourite actor of all-time. To me, he has everything a great actor should have, and there's just something about him that appeals to my taste the most. But, that's a very fine list of actors up there.

DeNiro. I was conflicted between him and Easwood, but DeNiro won by a hair.

I gotta back Robert De Niro. The man is the epitome of acting greatness. Speaking of which... I wonder how Al Pacino feels about being left out of that list...

...

...

Meh, he's probably cool with it, I imagine.

You do realize my opinion on the top ten does not include every great actor, right? There are hundreds upon hundreds that I would list as my favorite. This is simply the top ten.

honourable mention to Henry Fonda for one of my favourite performances ever in On Golden Pond - loved the movie and his character

Although his roles seem to all have the same personality... I have to go with DeNiro, just based on the fact that I love almost every movie I see him in. I would like to see a vote on who is the most intimidating actor. Off the top of my head: DeNiro, Pacino, and Nicholson would probably be the three on top.

DeNiro favs: Midnight Run, Casino, Heat, Deer Hunter, Goodfellas, Raging Bull, Taxi Driver

It's Jack for me. Hoffman and De Niro have both also shown incredible range and talent, but Hoffman isn't consistent enough, and De Niro hasn't actually delivered a GOOD performance in a reasonably good movie since the late 90's, so Jack takes the cake for me. Because he's been good in EVERY movie I've seen him in. He has the power and the talent to elate fluffier material (Terms of Endearment), but when he needs to go all-out batshit crazy, it's just DELICIOUS. And unlike his contemporaries like Pacino and De Niro, Jack has been delivering great performances all through the last decade, be it in About Schmidt, The Departed, or even the fluffy-but-harmless Something's Gotta Give, in which he was admittedly and admirably charming.
