This is where you pick your favorite group in a war movie that has jokesters, crazies, maniacs, shy types and so on. Once you see the choices, you'll get the idea.

Why is Forest Gump and Harts war on your poll over flicks like Guns of Navarone and Big Red one?

The Great Escape!

Of those though I'd go with Apocalyse Now Group.

Patton, though the Deer Hunter is my favorite war movie.

Though films like A Year of the Quiet Sun, Cold Mountain and the aforementioned Deer Hunter are much more powerful because they choose to focus on much more subtle topics, like how war affects innocent people, who have nothing to do with the actual conflict- other than see loved ones sent off like lambs to a slaughter of course.

I'm curious, why you picked Hart's War over Casualties of War, Hamburger Hill, We Were Soldiers, Tigerland or any other Vietnam movie is beyond me.

Wow, again. There are over 100s of War movies and the first 12 came to mind. Just pick "other" and specify then..

Apocalypse Now is my favorite war movie, but it's not really a movie that I feel close to the characters in.

I know some people consider Seven Samurai to be a war movie. I don't, but if I did, that would certainly be my choice.

My pick has to be Three Kings.

Well, I'd vote for Band of Brothers if it was on there, but out of the choices I'd have to go with Saving Private Ryan. Watching those eight guys get picked off after spending three hours with em was tough.

i would vote band of brothers if it was up there, but i'm going with full metal jacket. And by the way, there wasn't really one main group of soldiers in the longest day. There were like fifteen, so that shouldnt have been up there.

The Great Escape or The Guns of Navarone.

Of those on the list, Full Metal Jacket.

Damn right! Eastwood, Savalas, Rickles, O'Connor, Sutherland and MacLeod...

Oddball (Sutherland): This engine's been modified by our mechanical genius here, Moriarty. Right?
Moriarty (MacLeod): Whatever you say, babe.
[giggles]
Oddball: These engines are the fastest in any tanks in the European Theater of Operations, forwards or backwards. You see, man, we like to feel we can get out of trouble, quicker than we got into it.
Kelly (Eastwood): [looking skeptical] Got any other secret weapons?
Oddball: Well, yeah, man, you see, like, all the tanks we come up against are bigger and better than ours, so all we can hope to do is, like, scare 'em away, y'know. This gun is an ordinary 76mm but we add this piece of pipe onto it, and the Krauts think, like, maybe it's a 90mm. We got our own ammunition, it's filled with paint. When we fire it, it makes pretty pictures, scares the hell outta people! And we have a loudspeaker, when we go into battle we play music, very loud. It kind of... calms us down.

This is a really good question because it's hard for me to answer. But I think I'm going to have to say the saving private ryan group.

There are a lot of great movies on the list, but Lee Marvin and his Dirty Dozen stand out. It's not the most realistic war movie ever made, but a classic none the less.

Saving Private Ryan. First thing I thought of.

Second thing I thought of? MASH. Didn't vote other though, because I'm not really sure if it counts. But it it did, it'd definitely be MASH.

Saving Private Ryan - just because it's my favorite war movie.
