Awhile back I heard talk of a Kingdom of Heaven SE/DC that was supposed to infinitely surpass the theatrical cut (Which was severly lacking in several different areas) but am yet to see said film available. What's the deal with this?

The director's cut has been available for quite awhile. (http://www.amazon.com/Kingdom-Heaven-4-Disc-Directors-Cut/dp/B000EHSVQ4/sr=8-1/qid=1160963034/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/102-2338240-5022554?ie=UTF8)
And I definatley recommend it. Like most of Ridley Scott's Blade Runner and Legend director's cuts, it's almost like a brand new film.
Also, the features are quite extensive and good (a 4-disc set), especially for the price.

I agree...one of the best sets to come out in a while.

Kingdom of Heaven DC feels like an entirely different movie. I'd highly recommend it. One of my favorite DVDs so far this year.

I saw the theatrical cut and felt like i wanted to have more background story. I hear nothing but good things about the DC, id say get it for sure...i myself will rent the DC and check it out.

One thing though, Bloom's acting couldn't have improved in the DC :o
Dude always looks like a lost abandoned child hehe...

I'm not sure his acting improved, but the scenes reintroduced actually make the way he acts in the film make more sense. Trust me, Ridley knew what he was doing hiring Bloom. I even ate my words when I said he made a mistake hiring Bloom.
Still, Jeremy Irons as Tiberias pwns all.

Saw the TC, and thought it was pretty good (7.5/10). But if the Director's Cut is that much better, then I'll be sure to keep my eye out for it.

I don't really like Bloom, but I thought he did an ok job with this one.

Oh, and please tell me there are more scenes with Liam Neeson. Seems he's in a lot of good movies in recent years, but doesn't get much screentime.

I thought it had been out for awhile, but I'm unable to locate it in town and when I checked on Netflix it was nonexistent as well, hence my confusion. Thanks all for clearing that one up. Unfortunately I find myself in a pickle on availability, but next time I'm someplace with a Best Buy perhaps I'll blind buy the shite.

A good question posed above, does Liam get more screentime? Also, do they have something of a training montage along the way regarding Blooms character? I only ask because one of my biggest problems with the TC was the fact that Bloom goes from a peasant blacksmith to a full blown badass who's able to take out 3 Knights Templar (who are supposed to be fuckin leet, btw) practically empty handed. (The aformentioned is one of my favorite scenes in the film, but c'mon, its not exactly practical)

1. Yes Liam Neeson has a few more scenes.

2. The movie implied that before he was a peasant blacksmith he was an "enginer" who built catapults. Also the German law student asked if he had been at war. He stated "Yes, for one Lord against another. On an issue that cannot be remembered." I know one of the criticisms was that there was no way Balian could have become an awesome swordsman after having only one swordfight with his father. The DC implied that he had been a knight before and got tired of the fighting.

I was a fan of the theatrical version as it was, and upon seeing the Director's Cut, I honestly feel that it's one of the better (and most underrated) movies I've seen in quite some time.

In truth, I would never even recommend the theatrical version to someone, because the added content in the DC just ties the whole story together so well...going back and watching the original version would almost feel like a cheat.

There are two discs of special features packed with the DC; I haven't checked them out yet, but I've heard there is a ton of great content.

P.S. If it tells you anything, I've been browsing these forums for a long time, but as soon as I saw this thread I had to register!

Wow, you all make this sound incredibly fantastic, so I may just have to go to my local DVD peddler and him to order this bitch up! Think I'll do it tomorrow, thanks guys.

Oh, and welcome to the boards cfdemarco! Hope you have a great time full of...clouds...and...bunnies...and...shit....

Or something.
