He faces up to 40 years in prison. The charges seem very serious. One story also mentioned that at the moment Snipes can't be found. Crazy stuff.

They may send him to the cryo-prison for this one.

Exactly and implant a rehab program into his brain so he can learn useful skills such as combat training, explosives training, violent behaviour and tons of more cool stuff.

Then all they need to do is pin something on Sylvester Stallone and then put him into cryo-freeze.

I love Demolition Man! :D :p

What I can't figure out is how in the hell did he think he would get away with failing to file a return for 5 years and claming ZERO adjusted income in a year in which he earned $7.3 million. That must have screamed AUDIT ME to the IRS.

I think he is definitely gonna do time for this the only question is how long.

I dont have anything personal against Snipes, but if true, I hope he goes down for this. I had the IRS hound my ass one time for a measley $348! They threatened me with penalties upon penalties with interest included! The hell with these celebs who can somehow get away with this kind of back payment - Oh and screw the IRS as well for hounding the average schmuck for mere peanuts and allowing the rich to get away for years.

I was trying to find a rhyme with taxes to go with that "...Cheap Sunglasses..." line from the ZZ Top song but couldn't think of one.

I hope Snipes goes down. He can share a cell with John McTiernan.

The article says 16 years, not 40?

16 sounds more fair. 40 years sounds a bit harsh.

Even though he deserves to go down, there is a selfish part of me that doesn't want him to go to jail since that means no more Blade movies. And I really enjoy the Blade movies.

Didn't Blade III all but kill the franchise? I don't think there would have been anymore either way.

Pretty much. But it was retarded of them to release a genre movie like that in December.

But for crying out loud, if it weren't for Blade, Whesly Snipes would have been irrelivant since... I can't think of the last movie he was considered a big star. The Fan?

Hard to believe he was once thought of as a really good actor, not an action star.

Snipes Subdues Uncle Sam
Friday November 3 9:42 AM ET

Actor Wesley Snipes has reached an undisclosed agreement with the IRS over tax fraud charges, and will straighten things out when he returns to the US.

By Dennis Michael, FilmStew.com

Wesley Snipes has reached a settlement with the IRS. Daily Variety reports the actor's managers are preparing a statement that may have some details of the arrangement, and that he will surrender to IRS authorities when he returns to the US, although he will not be jailed.

The actor was indicted on October 17th, along with two men who helped him claim $12 million in refunds on his 1996 and 1997 taxes, refunds that were disallowed. Snipes also allegedly used accountants with a history of filing false IRS claims. The two men named alongside Snipes in the indictment are facing the charges in a Florida Federal Court.

Snipes, on the other hand, is facing the cameras on the set of Gallowwalker, a horror film being shot in Namibia. Production executive Gary Smith says the Gallowwalker unit is happy that he's continued to show up on set every day, and not displeased with the publicity. "If his indictment creates this amount of press, that shows he's a star," says Smith, falling back on the ancient Hollywood rule that any publicity is good publicity.

Snipes is set to segue from Gallowwalker to Chasing the Dragon, set in Taiwan and Thailand, where producers are reported relieved that Snipes will be able to shoot the film.

Snipes pleads not guilty.

ORLANDO, Florida (AP) -- Wesley Snipes was released on $1 million bond after pleading not guilty to federal charges including falsely claiming millions of dollars in tax refunds, two months after he was indicted in central Florida.

The actor, known for films such as the "Blade" trilogy, didn't speak at a court appearance in Ocala on Friday. He went there after arriving in Orlando on a private jet from the African nation of Namibia, where he was filming "Gallow Walker," his publicist said.

"I look forward to clearing my name and resolving this issue posthaste," Snipes, wearing blue tinted glasses and a suit, said after the hearing. He didn't comment further.

Snipes, 44, was charged in October with fraudulently claiming refunds totaling nearly $12 million in 1996 and 1997 on income taxes already paid. He was also charged with failure to file returns from 1999 through 2004. If convicted, he faces up to 16 years in prison.

He will be allowed to return to Namibia to finish the film, but must return to his home in Marina del Rey, California, by January 10, U.S. Magistrate Gary Jones ruled.

After that, he will be required to surrender his U.S. passport and will be restricted to traveling in the continental United States. A February 22 status conference was scheduled, which Snipes isn't required to attend.

According to the indictment, Snipes had his taxes prepared by accountants with a history of filing false returns to reap payments for their clients. The firm American Rights Litigators would receive 20 percent of refunds from clients, according to the indictment.

"We believe the evidence in the case will show he has been the victim of unscrupulous tax advice. And this trial will help vindicate him," said Billy Martin, Snipes' lawyer.

"Gallow Walker," a cowboy movie, will be completed next week and will be released sometime next fall, said Ian Thompson, spokesman for Sheer Films, which is producing the movie. Snipes' arrest wasn't expected to delay production, Thompson said.

Martin said Snipes left the United States to film the movie long before the indictment.

"We want to make it clear that he did not avoid returning to the United States. He's always been ready to return," Martin said.
