View Full Version : straight-to-DVD (STDs) sequels: they suck.

one of the worst decisions i ever made was waste 90 minutes of my life watching STARSHIP TROOPERS 2... no wonder my brother was so quick to donate it to me

anyway, it seems like studios are busting out more and more of these straight-to-DVD, C-movie, low-budget, franchise-killing POS's. why? cuz it's all about the money. so in an effort to stop this, how about NOT purchasing these lame excuses for movies and spreading the word?

here are some examples of STD sequels from the top of my head:

Butterfly Effect 2
Behind Enemy Lines 2
Species 3
Wild Things 2 and 3
Bring it On 2 and 3
Cruel Intentions 2

there are lots of them out there... anyone remember any?

watch, some people are gonna say they own some of these...

Thank you for that imfortative and insightful commentary. I've never seen a direct-to-video sequel I've liked. EVER.

The only two DTV sequels I've seen that were even close to not completely sucking were LILO & STITCH 2 and BAMBI II. That's it... And I've been forced to sit through a helluva lot of DTV sequels.

that reminds me.

disney is a complete whore when it comes to STDs:

lion king 1 and 1/2
lion king 2
fox and the hound 2
brother bear 2

there are a LOT more...

i found a list of many STDs, but they include non-sequels:

i would say the ONLY ones that deserve spots in my library are:

. . . it had a limited theatrical release in Europe though. So . . . it's just 'technically' STV. Yeah.

But I just have too. When something looks as bad as The Butterfly Effect 2 I just can't help but watch it.

Species 3 is one of my all-time favorite comedies. It's worth picking up.

lol, it's not as bad as I make it out to be. It's bad in the way AVP was. Where even though there's no way it could live up to expectations, it still doesn't even try.
I feel it would've been a better movie if it wasn't a Starship Troopers sequel. The script really felt like it was from a different universe than the first movie.
