To my delight, Amazon have re-stocked themselves with the Batman Begins 2-disc special edition, which I am planning to order at a very soon time. But to my dismay, I seem to be split between two choices. You see, Amazon has two versions of this DVD, both seemingly exactly the same, save for a few differences:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000AU9UYM/ref=pd_rvi_gw_2/102-6740417-1069715?ie=UTF8

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000BUYP4Q/ref=pd_rvi_gw_1/102-6740417-1069715?ie=UTF8

As you can see, the extras, release date and everything on the discs is the same. But the difference begins in the runtime. The first version lists 134 minutes; the second, 140.

Another difference is the price. The list price for the first version is $30, a highly logical price for a 2-disc DVD set. The list price for the second version is $20, which is a somewhat suspicious price for a 2-disc set.

I am convinced these are two seperate DVDs as they both have different ASIN numbers (B000AU9UYM for the first, B000BUYP4Q for the second). I am extremely curious as to just what the differences between these two DVDs are. If anyone has any insight on this mystery, please, fill me in, because I just don't know which one to get.

The first link has a cardboard sleeve as well as a booklet that comes with the movie. The second one is just the movie that comes inside the cardboard sleeve, minus the sleeve or booklet.

I wouldn't be concerned about the runtime.

Excellent. Very informative, thanks. The first version it is, then.

Yeah, Monotreme. Outsyder got it right.
When the dvd first came out, there was some licensing issue with the comic book that was in that carboard sleeve edition, so the dvd got pulled for some time. Now, it's fine.
But in that gap they put out that other sleeve-less BB 2-disc dvd version.
I say go for the more expensive one, as it is cooler and has a nice comic-book/sleeve.
If those things don't bother you, then don't waste your money as the dvds themselves are identical.

Well, if you notice, the actual selling price for both DVDs is $15 (the expensive one is at 50% off while the cheaper one is at like 20%), so either way it's the same price. I was mainly concerned about the runtime, but since I haven't heard of any type of extended edition, it's no doubt the same film. Expensive version with slip cover it is.

also, be aware that if you're a collector of rare or special covers, etc., there is a lenticular version out there that was available in best buy stores the first week it was released; i think u can still find some on the specially listed amazon sales or ebay

The lenticular cover is rare? Wow, live and learn I guess.

I bought the one with the comic and lenticular cover the day it was released at Walmart. Although I live in Canada, so this might not be a big deal.

I own a copy of that - I don't think it's anything special, but it's good to know I have one. I didn't know they were rare.

I did the same thing bud and I can't believe how rare it is. I live in Canada as well and it was only $24 bucks.

Would you happen to have a photo proof of the said set?

It was only BestBuy (as far as I know) that carries the "Lenticular" packaging

Pictured Below are 2 lenticular version

the one with black border is the R3/R2 Lenticular design and the borderless one is the Bestbuy USA exclusive:

I wouldn't be too concerned xage. I don't know how Walmart works down in the states, but up here... exclusives go out the window. Walmart has the typical Walmart Exclusives (like the Hot Fuzz DVD, for example...) for like a week or two. But often you can find other "exclusives" for like, Best Buy, or other exclusives ONLY in the states. Sometimes even in "bin" dumps (not the bargain bins...) I've found numerous "exclusive" steelbooks at Walmart (sure, most of them were unsealed and ONLY the case, no discs, but it was odd.) I don't know how it works, but it seems our location buys out other store's stock or something. I haven't noticed Batman Begins specifically, but The Departed and Cars steelbooks were both at Walmart. One or two copies. Hell, Walmart often stocks Hot Topic exclusives, such as that Donnie Darko tin.

I got the 2 disk lenicular cover with the comic from best buy the day it was released. Walmart.com was running the 2 disk for 15.99 so I printed out the website and bestbuy matched it for me. So I got mine for about the same price as the 1 disk.
