"Men with Brooms" was released nationwide this past Friday. I was wondering if any fellow Canadians had seen it.

It's got everything Canadian - curling, Leslie Nielsen and lots of beaver! It's supposed to pretty good, and I'm actually thinking of seeing it. I know most people outside of the country have probably never heard of it, but that's to be expected.

O Canada....

Men with Brooms is the first Canadian movie to come to my local cinema since The Art of War, and it actually looks pretty good. I like curling (sue me) and Leslie Nielsen AND the very underrated Paul Gross are in it (he directs, too!). Unfortunately I haven't gotten to see it yet but I'll try my best over the next few days. It's about time that a homegrown film hits No. 1 in Canada too, here's hoping it happens!

Paul Gross!

Kick me in the arse but I am damn glad he is still working.

I was pissed when they nixed Due South.

I have never heard of this, maybe I will have to do some looking about the Net to get some background on this.

If it has Paul and Leslie I am there!

Well I did my research go check it out and watch the trailer, looks good.

I became very fascinated with the sport of Curling during the Olympics, and I get CBC where I live so I've seen the previews for it, and it looks hilarious! Will it get an American release, eh?

Men With Brooms opened here in Canada with some $1.05 million dollars and a $5000+ average per screen.

That is great news for the film! It's first weekend gross is higher than those of We Were Soldiers, Queen Of the Damned and Collateral Damage here in Canada!!!!

That's incredible! For Canada, anyways. $1.05 million may seem low to Americans but remember our population is only about 1/9 of yours, so that's pretty darn good. First the hockey golds, now this! Canada has become patriotic once again!

What place did it come in?

Final rankings come out tommorow afternoon at www.canoe.ca. (http://www.canoe.ca.) I assume second place, after The Time Machine however it could have placed 1st.

We Were Soldiers opened in second place last week as 40 Days and 40 Nights opened in 1st place. So anything goes up here.

I hope it placed first! http://www.joblo.com/ubb/smile.gif

"Men with Brooms" placed 1st at the Canadian box office, over such competition as "We Were Soldiers", "The Time Machine" and "$40 Days and 40 Nights"!!!

This is great news... people are actually flocking to this homegrown CANADIAN curling flick! I've heard many positive notices thus far, and I hope to see it this week. Good for Paul Gross and Co... http://www.joblo.com/ubb/smile.gif

When I saw the title and Leslie Neilsen's involvement I'll admit I thought we were in for another Naked Gun-style movie. When I checked out the trailer I was pleasantly surprised to find an entirely different kind of movie...one that I'm dying to see. Does anyone know if this is getting a U.S. release?

Paul Gross was great in Due South, I'm glad to hear he hasn't been relegated to straight-to-video trash. Hopefully we'll see more of him in the future. I'll definitely catch this on dvd.

I finally took in "Men with Brooms" this afternoon, and I discovered an entertaining movie with lots of charm. The technical credits are outstanding and it never looks like most low-budget Canadian films we're used to. It does, however, feel Canadian. Nice work done by all the performers (special kudos to Leslie Nielsen), and aside from some heavy-handed subplots that weigh it down, this is a funny little film with lots to offer. I'd give it a 7/10.

I don't think it will be released theatrically in the U.S., but make sure to look for it on DVD.

Its nice to hear of Leslie Nielsen being in at least one movie where he's not doing his ham-it-up slapstick. Let's see him take more laidback roles.

With shitty movies like Wrongfully Accused and 2001: A space travesty, seeing Leslie Nielsen's name on any film has since turned me off. You guys persuaded me to view the trailer and I must agree that this is a positive change for him. I think it has an interesting premise, but I am not too sure of it. I hope you guys can give some detailed reviews as you see it. Looking forward to supporting Canada (by downloading the film on KaZaA). lol http://www.joblo.com/ubb/smile.gif

But seriously, let me know what you think..

That wouldn't be too hard to do http://www.joblo.com/ubb/smile.gif

And that record may be broken again soon when Duct Tape Forever, the film based on our popular sitcom The Red Green Show, opens up this weekend.

Quick question... For those outside of Saskatchewan... Did the movie open with a short skit on Rider Pride? I am mostly wondering because it did in Saskatchewan and they made a big deal out of it and mainly I just want to know if it was a publicity stunt for Saskatchewan or if it made it outside of our boarders...
