This one looks funny. I read the book, and I love Dave Barry and most Barry Sonnenfield movies (except Wild Wild West), so I would like to see Big Trouble when it comes out on Friday.

My only problem with this movie is that Tim Allen is in it, and I'm not a big fan of his movies (I did love his Buzz Lightyear voicings in the Toy Storys though). Plus Rene Russo looks hot as a blonde.

The funniest line in the trailer is:
"Was that a goat?"
LMAO!

actually it was "Was that a goat?" but that doesn't matter. I'm really looking forward to it, since the book was really funny, and how April is a sucky month for movies this year.

Whatever. I think there was an alligator in the book, so that's why I said it. Sorry about that.

Is only one other person looking forward to this?

I remember seeing a trailer for Big Trouble many many months back.I never read the book but,I've always enjoyed Barry Sonnenfield movies(except Wild Wild West),and the cast looked very promising. Then came the huge delay because of 9/11, now, hearing the news it's finally ready be realeased, I'm very excited to see it.

This was a hilarious movie. I can't stress that enough. However, there was nothing more to it. Everybdoy did well in their respective parts, but there was no emotion, and you really didn't care what happened to the characters. Now this wasn't a bad thing... at all. It was simple made to make you laugh, and it succedes.
Much like last year's Rat Race, this is a quirky ensemble comedy, with a running time of under 90 minutes. A perfect way to get something heavy out of your head, or to have fun and relax.
9/10

I just saw the movie this afternoon with two of my friends, and all three of us loved it! It was very very funny and reminded me a lot of Rat Race is ways. The time flew by so quick though... only 90 minutes http://www.joblo.com/ubb/frown.gif but I was laughing out loud a lot http://www.joblo.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

GRADE: B+ (8/10)

Damn this movie sucked it up yesterday (Friday) at the box office! What a paltry amount of money! I guess March/April is not the time of year for dark, quirky comedies.

This movie totally sucked! I could not believe that it was so bad, because it has such a great cast, but it managed to suck big time. I don't understand how anybody could find this funny (no offense to anybody). I didn't laugh once during this boring crapfest. One of the worst movies ever made and the worst movie of the year so far. 2/10.

"Big Trouble"- A-
Like the earlier-reviewed "Collateral Damage," "Big Trouble" was a casulty of post-9/11 postponements by Hollywood execs. Not unreasonably, either. This black comedy has a plot set into motion partially due to a nuke on the move in Miami, and the climax pokes fun at the incompetence of airport security (pre-9/11), two very un-PC things nowadays. That said, give director Barry Sonnenfeld ("Get Shorty," "Men in Black") points for not censoring his film- based on a novel by humorist Dave Barry- after the Twin Towers fell. Hell, if that happened, there'd be no film, and that would be a shame. To go through all the characters and particulars of the story would take a long time- and I want to keep this review as short as possible. Needless to say, I very much enjoyed the dark humor Barry (and Sonnenfeld) find in this wild collection of characters, from Tim Allen's advertising father to Rene Russo's unsatisfied wife to Tom Sizemore's bumbling stupidity as a "heavy" to Stanley Tucci's jerk of a husband. And those musicians among you will love the soundtrack by James Newton Howard and co. "Big Trouble" was on my Top 10 list of movies to see last Fall. Not unreasonably, either.

I LOVED THIS MOVIE! You guys have to remember that this movie is not out to win any awards, but to make you laugh. And it did for me. I think that this is the funniest movie of the year so far and I love Sonnefields and Barry's style. Sure it was trying to have the same feel as Get Shorty it even shared some of the same actors and setting but I am not going to hold that against it.

A- in my book

it was a great film.. but it seemed to last only about 1 hour 10 minutes. Too short for $7.25, but definitely worth a couple rents.

Jason Lee is the man. I can't wait 4 the new Fletch films

and the best line was "Jesus?"

this was a very undeserving bomb. it made 3.7M in the box office, but was actually expected to bomb.
This movie really made me laugh, unlike say Sorority Boys or Slackers (but Rollerball made me laugh in an unintentional way). With the Jesus-like figure of Jason Lee, the very funny asshole Stanley Tucci, and dumb cop Patrick Warbutton, along with the rest of the cast, really made me laugh in the way intended.

Review: Big Trouble

Starring Tim Allen, Dennis Farina, Ben Foster, Zooey Deschanel, Rene Russo, Stanley Tucci, Heavy D, Omar Epps, Patrick Warburton, Tom Sizemore, and Janeane Garafolo

Rating: 8/10

I thought this movie was hilarious. It was laugh per second riot. There were big laughs like Stanley Tucci, the maid, and her "toes". The Martha Stewart dog was also funny as hell. There were also smaller laughs like the Gator fans and the dog sniffing the privates. Yes this movie is very, very short, but it takes every second of the 86 minutes and makes them all hilarious. I know a lot of people don't respect this movie. I was in a theatre with 13 people and only two people other than me were laughing hard. I just don't think many people can get into this film's pace and style(JoBlo was right there is a lot of freeze framing and that annoyed many). This film will surely be a cult favorite. It will be liked by a few and hated by many. I am not in the latter. It is sad that it'll make as much in its whoel run as MIB2 will make in its first few hours.

I really enjoyed Big Trouble and thought that it was alot of fun! I've seen many people say that it was too soon to release it after 9/11 but I totally disagree and am glad that it finally came out. Hopefully this weekend will be better for it http://www.joblo.com/ubb/smile.gif

I doubt it. A $3.7 million doesn't bode well for its b.o. future. In order for word-of-mouth to work, you need mouths to spread the word. It will probably lose half its screens next weekend. And those leftover screens will probably lose half the showtimes. Oh well, I'll wait for the video.

I went and saw this the other night and was a bit disappointed.

I think that Tim Allen ruined it for me. I don't find him very funny at all. I did like the scenes with Heavy D and Omar Epps and really liked Patrick Warburton. I think his body language is hilarious. I miss the Tick.
That's probably another reason I didn't laugh much during this film. My sense of humor is focused more on the silly random style of comedy or dark subtle comedies like The Royal Tenenbaums.

Another thing, that ending is just plain dumb.
oh yeah, and Andy Richter is great.
