Ok so the year is now 2006 going into 2007
your Favorite films are now available on DVD three months after they have surfaced in theatres. The Tuesday Street date is now overcrowded with more Films then the Average collectors can keep up with. So what happend. believe it or not Twenty Years ago..in 1986, When VHS Ruled the shelves, west coast video was as big as blockbuster video and hollywood video, It cost you half of your paycheck to become a member of your favorite video store, plus you are allowed to pay for the movie either upfront or when you return. if you wanted to buy the film. you would have to wait close to six months for the video retailer to make their money back off of the one Copy that you want to own. The Movies that have hit theatres such as.....Top Gun, About last night, Crocodile Dundee, Back to School, Little Shop of Horrors, Ferris Buellers day off, Cobra, Raw Deal, The Golden Child, Pretty in pink, and the best picture The Color Purple all would hit shelves in a window of 6 to 9 months before they were rented.
it was a diffrent time period. skip ahead 20 years into the future to the year 2006. Films like Saw 3, Just My Luck, Monster House, Fast and the Furious Tokyo Drift, Poseidon, When a Stranger Calls and Grandmas boy would not last in theatres and the window would get shorter to Two to Three months
Why would the Consumer, Want to pay $10 to see a film in theatres like SAW 3 when in 3 months and Six dollars more. you can own it. or for $6 less Rent it.
Well to answer that question. alot of studios are spending less on a theatrical Marketing push and more on the DVD Sales push, knowing that Consumer sales will more then Likely make up for some of the Revenue that it lost in Theatres. a good Example is the WWE Produced Action movie "The Marine". While it cost close to $20 Million to Produce. WWE and Fox Films spent less in avertising (Except maybe Vince Mcmahon pushing it down the Wrestling Fans throats). However the film which will average about $20 million before it leaves theatres. will make the most of the Revenue that will be Profit off of DVD Sales.
Its cheaper to produce and Distribute DVD's then it is to get a film into theatres. so look to the future now....Twenty Years from now....DVD's will be out, Theatres will be out....and the only thing you will need to do. so order a movie over your TV and watch it in the privacy of your own home. and if you want to own it. it will cost you a little more to burn it onto a New Type of disc.
The Future is scary isnt it.
as for Windows.....in Ten years......Theatre and DVD Release will co-conside on the same day.
