My first post on JoBlo, so this is very exciting, anyway, on my joblo space, I have a blog up pertaining to this topic, but what is the deal with Mike's mask throughout the series? Why can't they get the mask right in the sequels? With all the money producers have, how could they NOT find the original mask or at least make one that looked like the original. Part II is okay, but the rest, the mask just looks wrong. Is it just me? I can't believe with the talent that costume designers, make up effects personnel and like I said, all the money they have, how could they not get the mask right? Here's hoping Rob Zombie can make up for this in his re-imagining, re envisioning, whatever they call it, I for one am excited to see his take on this franchise. I love the series, I love everything about part one in particular, but why does the mask issue bother me so much?....Enough of my rambling, anyone know why they could not get the mask for the sequels?

I didn't notice; they all looked the same to me...as for why the producers didn't pay more for them; maybe they're cheap bastards.:p And what is it with Hollywood re-making everything now; that's what I'd like to know.

Not to be a bitch, but why would Michael have the same mask?

I mean, let's look at the sequel endings: (SPOILERS, duh!)

Part 2- blown up (his mask would be gone)
Part 4- shot repeatedly and thrown down a mineshaft (mask would have been gone again because he was rescued by some old guy as we see him at the beginning of Part 5)
Part 5- taken by the Thorn cult (might still have the same mask)
Part 6- I can't even remember how this one ends...anyone? :D
H20- Puts his mask on someone else so that they're killed in his place (mask was very obviously gone)
Resurrection- Burned/electrocuted by Busta fucking Rhymes (mask should be intact, if only because Michael doesn't want his face shown after that piece of shit movie)

See what I mean? If he's been 'killed' at the end of every movie, he would get a different white mask during the beginning of nearly every film.

So that's not really a plot hole on the directors/costumers parts...let's stick to the glaring continuity/believability errors of the films. ;)

This from an ex-script from a interview with Zombie this past June..

QUESTION: The masks in the past 4 Halloween films were all different, and some of them weren't scary. Are you going to re-design the mask, or will you stick to the Captain Kirk version that was used in the original film?

RZ: I want to keep the mask classic

Side note trivia...the original mask was a William Shatner Star Trek mask they bleached....Scary Huh ?

To be honest, I really don't mind The Shape's mask changing from movie to movie, with the exception of Halloween 5 (but then again, EVERYTHING about that movie bothers me!) I kind of dug the new mask in Halloween 4, thought the different mask - which seems to allude that it's the SAME mask as part 4 since it's still in the old dude's shack - in part 5 was horrendous, and thought the mask in part 6 was pretty sweet. Other than the mask changing from scene to scene in H20, I thought it was okay. The mask in Resurrection was about the only decent thing in that crapfest of a movie.

I seem to recall M. Akkad saying years ago in an interview that the reason they had to change masks in 4, 5. 6 etc. (ie: not use the original from 1 & 2) was due to legal issues over copyrights and who held the licensing and distribution rights over the first two films. I may be wrong on that, but I think I read that a long time ago. Can anyone verify that?

I Goggled it a bit and came up short. Wish I still had my old issues of Fangoria laying around. A licensing disagreement would make sense.

I came across this site http://www.halloweenseries.com/halloweenpage4
it has a lot of updated news and spoilers ....so I didn't mess around with it a lot.
