I just saw a tv spot for 'Flushed Away', in the spot it said "The Best Animated movie of the year!"
They have literally said that for EVERY animated movie that has come out this year.
I heard it for Cars, Over the Hedge, Monster House, Barnyard, Open Season......
STOP FUCKING SAYING IT!!!!!!!!!
Goddamn, every comedy that comes out doesnt say "Its the best comedy of the year!" Every drama that comes out doesnt say 'Its the best drama of the year!" Why do they have to do it for animated movies? They are a guarantee hit. Parents take their bratty little kids to see whatever animated movie comes out, they dont read reviews, they just go so that Johnny will be happy. The animated movies fucking sell themselves, nobody says "oh its the best animated movie of the year, LETS GO!"

Using that catch phrase is played down to the kiddies of course and they NAG & NAG & NAG that they will drop dead if mummy or daddy does not take to this movie on opening weekend.
Usually cutesy animals will draw parents to this cuz they are the ones with the $$$ even if its a SHITTY ONE.....
I am sooooooo holding out for DVD on FLUSSSSSSSHED AWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY

This rant would be better if it were only January.

It's quasi off topic, but what really bugs me is "from the studio/producers/makers of" taglines. I noticed this when The US vs. John Lennon was marketed as "fromt the studio that brought you Farenheit 9/11." As much as I'd like to see that movie, that doesn't say anything about the quality of it. It's from the same Lions Gate studio. So what? They also made Alone in the Dark and See No Evil. That's not something to brag about at all.

They do say best/funniest comedy of the year.
The pimping of these crappy movies does suck. It's all shite really.

And DID YOU KNOW:
Cars is THE NO.1 ANIMATED MOVIE OF THE YEAR!
...really?
By what rating system?
I heard that "The Prestige" was the No 1 "magician friendly" movie of the year AND that "Marie Antoinette" was the No. 1 "movie about a dead French chick" for every year since the year she was BORN!
How's THAT for a way to draw people in to see your movie?
I hate these advertising execs SO much.

To go even further, I think the new trend now is "Best Comedy In Years".

Actually, I believe the trend now is the "best comedy since the 40-Year-Old Virgin. And you think the animated thing is bad? With every Oscar-type movie that comes out here, the advertisements sell it as "THE motion picture of the year!"
Children of Men - THE most powerful drama of the year!
The Departed - THE most powerful drama of the year!
Eragon - THE motion picture event of the year!
I remember last year when King Kong, Chronicles of Narnia and the fourth Harry Potter film were somehow ALL the "motion picture event of the year!" Sorry, there can only be one of those per year, dear advertisers. There should be a law banning all but ONE use of that phrase in an advertising campaign per year. It is indeed annoying as fuck.

Hey, aren't the "MOST..." taglines what the critics say? The advertisement execs are just using what the crictics say about the movie as a blurb, not make it up themselves.

If you pay attention to some of the "Best Animated . . ." or "Best Comedy . . . " whatevers when they pop up onscreen - they're quotes from different "critics." So they're different people's opinions on the movie which is probably the dumbest thing marketers can think to do.
