LOS ANGELES -
Neil Patrick Harris is gay and wants to quell any rumors to the contrary. "(I) am quite proud to say that I am a very content gay man living my life to the fullest," Harris tells People magazine's Web site.

The 33-year-old actor said he was motivated to disclose his sexuality because of recent "speculation and interest in my private life and relationships."

Harris stars on the CBS comedy "How I Met Your Mother." He started on TV as a teen, playing the namesake doctor on the series "Doogie Howser, M.D."

Any other celebs wanna come out of the closet? Did any of you think that he would?

Cant say it was a shock to read that. The only thing he has ever done to throw me for a loop on him being gay or not was his cameo in Harold and Kumar. I always just assumed he was though.

I thought he'd already confirmed this.

Don't forget that Undercover Brother scene where he kills the bad guys in humorously gross ways for calling him a "sissy."

I'm gonna go ahead and say that I didn't see this coming.

Same here. Mostly because I don't really care, though. Same with whoever came out on that Grey's Anatomy show. You can't really see something coming that you wouldn't bother to ever think about anyway..

"Yeah. I could go for some burgers - FUR burgers."

Awesome cameo. I can't say I'm really surprised by the news. Plus I'd say he's probably one of the highest profile actors who as come out and doesn't seem to be concerned, which is good.

I always kind of assumed.

His cameo in Harold and Kumar is one of the best things to ever grace my TV screen.

Hey, it takes grapes to come out like that so go ahead, Doogie.
Was surprised about Heather Matarazzo AND Sandra Oh, but hey, variety is the spice of life.

Me neither, and I'm usually not shocked when celebrities come out of the closet, well except for Chad Allen. :D

Wow when he said he's had every piece of ass on Harold and Kumar I thought he meant the women!

So far the Grey's Anatomy star, Lance Bass, pro wrestler Chris Kanyon, George Takei are fabulous!!!!!!

I put money on Dane Cook coming out of the closet next. There's something about his mannerisms that scream joto

I don't really care that he came out of the closet. Didn't this guy go out with the 80's?

Probably since it's more acceptable and you would get more sympathy if you do instead of constant denial like they did in the 50s. It's a good PR move. He doesn't want to end up like Rock Hudson or Rudolf Nureyev.

People like Nathan Lane and Rupert Everett are doing great.

My prediction on the next one is Vin Diesel. In his book of essays, Kevin Smith pointed to a movie star that he found out was actually really gay. And Vin Diesel pretty much fits the description that he put forward.
