How many of you remember this post last year from Gregg Hoffman[, the late producer of Saw and Saw II]?

"First of all, thank all of you for your support. The SAW II opening exceeded our wildest expectations and you guys had a lot to do with it. So THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!

Now.. a few comments.

1) RELAX!!!! We just finished SAW II. Yes, there's going to be a SAW III, and yes, we will do our best not to fuck it up. We're going to try for next year, but if it's not right when we'd have to start shooting, we'll wait.

-Gregg"

In this very early stage of the SAW IV planning I took a chance, and relayed some of your excitement, apprehension and concerns to someone you all should know. I got a reply, and was given permission to relay it to all of you.

"There will be a SAW 4 next year so long as we get the script right and I too promise to try and not f*ck it up.
By the way, the story line for SAW 4 is amazing and absolutely no one will see where we are going with it.
Mark Burg, producer of Saw, Saw II, and Saw III"

As you can imagine, Mark's been pretty busy, as is everyone involved. Normally I don't like to relay messages, but since Mark was out of the office for the weekend, I thought everyone might like his reply.

Maybe I can get him to stop by sometime, if time permits and keep us updated on things as they progress.

Also, if you don't know who Mark Burg is----------You really should do your SAW homework.

============================================

I thought I'd start with this encouraging message to the fans. Of course, we must remember that a producer would say anything to keep the fans coming back and the money rolling in.

I'm still skeptical of a sequel, especially since I've heard that the creators, James Wan and Leigh Whannell and the director and writer of the last two, Darren Lynn Bousman, are done with the franchise.

Without them involved, I lose almost all interest. But I will reserve judgment until I see a trailer or something.

I'm kind of split between excitement and unforeseen hatred toward this idea. On one hand, the Saw movies have a pretty damn fine track record, but on the other hand, all good things must come to an end and--considering the ending of Saw III--it seems like this good thing has.

***WARNING: SPOILERS HERE-IN***

And how the unholy fuck can we really have a great Saw where both Jigsaw and Amanda are dead?? I understand that the next film will be made up mainly of flashbacks, and I also understand that it will probably follow the main character from III looking for his daughter via the posthumous directions of Jigsaw, while intercutting with said flashbacks, probably giving us a nice look into the past of Jigsaw--HOWEVER, this is all so goddamn unnecessary that it just bothers me. Besides, we all know a Saw film needs a twist, and how good can it be now that Jigsaw's expiration date is up?

Plus, without the same writer or either two directors, I really can't see how it can maintain it's predecessors' kickin' feel. I guess we'll see though, since I know I can't stay away from it, even IF it smells of shit from the teaser on.

Saw movies are cheap and make tons of money. And they're making another one. Wow thats so surprising.

On top of that the only reason people see them are for the traps which anyone can do. They're cash cows.

I'm sure I'll hate this one as well.

Suprised, No disappointed yes. But I guess if they can have 500 million Friday the 13th movies that I can suffer through four pretty crappy saw movies.

From a business standpoint, the studio would be stupid not to make one. But they'd better get it released by next Halloween, because Saw hype absolutely dies about a month after each film is released.

It will most likely be the worst-written and most far-fetched Saw film yet, which makes it all the more likely that I will see it. And love it. But also hate most of it.

Im not surprised given that i thought the ending to SAW 3 led directly into SAW 4. There were a few questions as well that were yet to be resolved.

I can see it now-

SAW IV opens where III left off jeff yells and moans and has to find his daughter. leaves the room where jigsaw, amanda, and jeffs wifes are all dead, see another tape recorderin the nxt room plays it, its jigsaws voice tells jeff to play a yet another series of games in order to find his daughter. meanwhile we see a shitload of flashbacks and learn even more info on the story of each cheraters.

then at the end a big twist that we never saw fucking coming. SOMEONE OR SOMETHING THAT WE SAW IN ALL 3 SAW FILMS SHOWS UP FOR THE BIG TWIST. then the film ends. leaving us breathless.

what do you all think?

No one is surprised.

Spend $1.2 million, make $102 million (worldwide box office alone, aka, not counting DVD)
Spend $4 million, make $144 million
Spend $10 million, make $100+ million

Simple formula. I'd keep the budgets down as the audience seems to be finding a decreasing pattern in the quality of the films.

I'm not suprised, but I am definitely curious as to what direction they'll head in considering the ending of the third one. They're definitely fun and cool Halloween movies. As long as they keep making money, more power to 'em.
