So this is my first rant, and I just want some good feedback, answers, suggestions. Just want to get it off my chest basically.
So when dvd players were first out, I got one and had no problems with it. Then my house got broken into and the replacement we were given, gave me pretty much nothing but trouble. All the movies i'd buy and rent would stop when they werent meant to, and i'm really anal about taking care of my player and disc, so I figured I can't have that much bad luck, it's gotta be the player and not every single disc. So got a new one, and most discs have been good, but now i'm noticing alot of the discs I had before I got my new player, are stuffing up, so should I be curious about my player again, or is it the discs, if it's only a handful giving me problems. I really hate getting 3/4 of a way through a movie and then it just stalling, and it's cheaper to buy a new disc, but should i look at the player at all. Shits me that i'm so careful taking care of my stuff and it doesn't seem to help. Rant over.

try the discs in a couple of other players / computer and see if you get the same problems, if you do its likely the discs are bad, if not its something to do with the player
unless its with a hell of a lot of discs it might just be an incompatibility issue, ive had a number of discs which dont play at all, freeze, skip etc on one player but are completely fine on any other

I agree with what Cronos said. Try the discs on a few other DVD players.

What player do you have? One of those $30 Wal-Mart piece of shit players that lasts a month?

The fourth DVD player that I've bought was a Pioneer model from Wal-Mart at the price of about $80. It's played like a champ for me and never once (with the exception of DVD+R's) never fucked up unless the disc was obviously fucked up.

Just make sure you're cleaning the player after every 10 hours of use and clean each disc before playing. That might fix the problem. Just a suggestion. :)

before you waste money on a new dvd player try cleaning it walmart should in the electronics section sell a cd lens cleaner it is basically a cd with two little brushes on the bottom and it cleans dust and debris off your lens.

I will never buy an RCA again. I went through two and so did my inlaws.
My Panasonic five disc changer has NEVER given me problems, in fact all my vcr's were Panasonic.
Even rentals that have been through the ringer play like a charm.
I clean mine once a month.

The first generations of Toshibas and especially Phillips sucked ass. My phillips worked great for 6 months, then all of a sudden stopped recognizing anything that wasnt dual layered! $284 for that piece of crap. I owned two Toshibas, one a "Nuon" remember those? I was told by Toshiba it was the best! Neither could handle The Matrix without pixelizing! I briefly owned a Samsung progressive scan and that blew as well.
I now own 4 dvd players and use them all in my various rooms. Name brands are PIONEER, TEAC, KOSS & a 13 inch APEX tv that has a built in player. Even the cheapest are better than the $200 + Phillips and Toshiba I owned!
As a side note, my Pioneer gets the heaviest play and I've owned it since 2001. I havent cleaned it once. I only wipe off the dvds. Havent had no isues at all.

Mine was just under $100, an LG brand and I bought a lens cleaner recently and thought my problems may have been solved, but bought Scary Movie and I didn't even get 5 mins in before it started playing up, took it out and cleaned the player and disc and it stuffed up again, so thought it is most likely the disc in that case, cause watched another disc and it worked like a charm. It's still frustrating when some work and some don't, cause I don't wanna have to re-purchase half of my collection if it can be solved by a new player, or maybe I just am that unlucky in getting the discs. But my player is under a year old and I have warranty, so if more movies contiune to go this route, I might make a new player move.

I've only had one DVD player, and that's the $50 Walmart model my mom got me for Christmas. I haven't had any real problems with it, except for one DVD where the picture quality got bad about 3/4 into the movie. But that was because of a dirty disc.
Just try the DVDs in other players and see what gives you less headaches. One has to work for you.
