Funky Forest The First Contact (2005/2006)

This is a movie I recommend everyone to see, only for curiosity on if they can even make it all the way through. At 2 and a half hours, Funky Forest is most definitely the weirdest thing I have ever witnessed and probably the weirdest thing you'll ever see too. And depending on if you have the same experience as me, it'll be one of the more entertaining things you'll see.

To even try and touch on the plot of this movie would require spending your entire life to break it down and come up with some cohesive description. Even then, you probably covered maybe 3% of the entire thing. Funky Forest is all over the place and knows it, shoving it in your face while laughing at typical films. This is nowhere near to what you think it would be, it's everything but expected and throws around influences to things like The Wall and David Cronenberg throughout.

The best description I can give is that the entire movie is a collection of sketches, most being connected to each other in some loose way and others having no real relation to anything at all. One of the recurring sketches is called 'Guitar Brother,' following three brothers who are unpopular with women. One of them can only be calmed down by the sound of a katana closing on its case, another tries writing John Mayer like songs in order to get women, and the third is a fat European kid who always eats Snickers. How about the 'Hot Babbling Spring Vixens,' who are three girls that fit the description of the title they are given.

The movie's high point is the clip that ends Side A of the film (the movie is split into Side A and Side B, with a 3 minute intermission between both parts). In the clip 'Norri and Takefumi' we get to see the latter's dream. It is literally a 20 minute collection of dance sequences, ranging from two little girls wearing Devo's 'Whip It' glasses to a giant CGI robot that turns into a soccer ball. It has to be seen in order to believe it, and would be worth the admission alone.

There's a lot more gems throughout the huge running time, I haven't even mentioned my favourite sketch called 'Home School!!!!!!!!!!!!' or the disgusting latex creations throughout. I like the movie a lot, but I should give another warning. This movie is only going to be loved by a few, if you can't handle something that has no reasoning or cohesion and you have a small tolerance/patience level, do not go near this movie whatsoever. If you're willing to take the dive, good luck, and I hope you have a fun ride.

8/10
