Hey everybody,
I was over at ComingSoon.net and they've just posted the official teaser poster for "Hannibal Rising" which is coming out on February 9, 2007. It's a very creepy and cool teaser poster for sure and will definitely look good at the theatre when it officially is released.
I have to admit though that I'm a little skeptical about this film and not very excited as I don't know what angle they're taking with this film. I know that it outlines the younger years of Hannibal Lecter and how he becomes a cannibal but I wonder how much deeper they will go. I won't really decide on this until I see an official trailer for the film which I imagine will be out soon.
So check out the poster below as it is very sweet and tell us what you think!

That's a really sweet poster - but I still kind of wish they weren't making this movie. I love all the Hannibal books, but tis' kind of dragging on to long now. (I am pretty sure there's going to be another book released next year as well, right?)

Jesus Christ, I know fan artists on the SuperHeroHype Boards who could do better than that.....

It is an interesting poster, though I too am skeptical about the movie. And why does the poster feature him in the mask? He wasn't captured until the events in Red Dragon/Manhunter, and by then Anthony Hopkins/Bryan Cox were old enough to portray the character. Is Hopkins doing a cameo or something?

I think they just added it so that the general audience will immediately identify the character. That mask is synonomous with "Hannibal the Cannibal"....

I guess that makes sense. But the character of Hannibal Lecter has been synonymous with Anthony Hopkins. I'm thinking without Hopkins, this movie won't be worth a damn.

1) The poster is fucking incredible!!! The mask is a little different than the one used in Red Dragon/Silence of the Lambs. It is almost 'Joker-esque' - I LOVE IT!!!! I don't have a problem with any of the 3 Hopkins films. In, fact, they are far superior, IMO, to "Manhunter." Mann's film jumped all over the place and left way too much out from the book.
2) The new book comes out in late November/ early December.
3) Anthony Hopkins does a voice-over/narration in this film.
My rank of the series in this order:
Silence of the Lambs
Hannibal
Red Dragon
Manhunter

I've never understood the obsession with Hannibal Lecter. I like Manhunter and Hannibal. I'm one of the few who thinks SIlence of the Lambs is overrated and mearly "okay." Red Dragon was as close to a paint by numbers movie as you can get (read, mediocre, but not really bad).
I have zero interest in this. Just call it Hannibal Begins and be done with it.

I agree. That role IS Anthony Hopkins, for better or worse, and it's going to look lame without him, even if they do bribe him into doing a voiceover.

The origins of Hannibal huh?
They cant fuck it up anymore than TCM The Beginning. :D

I don't foresee this being too solid. I think without Hopkins this series has no steam, or in the case of Manhunter, considerably less.

If you look closer that is not a restraint mask. In fact it looks very Japanese if you look at the detail, which a restraint mask would never have.
So I'm guessing the movie is set in Asia, or the "meaty" bits of it anyway?

Hmmm...I think a Fincher directed Hannibal movie would be really cool. The mesh of his style and that world would be perfect.
Random thought.
The poster is lame as shit, as is this movie.

Honestly, what the FUCK is up with that nose on the mask? Talk about laugh-out-loud ridiculous.

A script review I read mentioned the mask. I recall it indeed is a samurai mask or similar, but Hannibal finds it in some private art collection, or something similar. I recall the story took mainly place in Europe.

The poster is meh. But why do people keep asking "do we really need such and such a movie?" We don't NEED any movies. We want them. As for whether a movie should or shouldn't be made. That's a question that won't be answered until it's actually out. And presumably the answer to that question will vary depending on who is asked.

I know. It makes him look like the Green Goblin or some Power Rangers villian.

No, he does not. He said that rumor was false...he is done with Hannibal Lecter.

According to Bloody-Distgusting.com he is doing a voice-over. When did he dis-claim this rumor?? I will stick with BD.com.

Well...that site is wrong.
Hopkins said last year on Jay Leno that he is done with Hannibal Lecter, that basically means that he won't be doing any Lecter stuff ever again and then this year in an interview after being asked directly if he is doing the voiceover for this movie - he said "no, thats a rumor"....plus, he has never mentioned this film as an upcoming movie in any interview this year or last year. He has mentioned Bobby, All the Kings Men, Fracture, Beowulf and Slipstream....not this film and its not listed under his name at IMDB.com either.
Its just a rumor...he probably wasn't even approached by the producers.

It does make sense that if they're trying to do it on the cheap as it seems to be that they wouldn't approach Hopkins. He'd probably cost a helluva lot even though he's not appearing in the film. Still, it'd be nice.

Thanks for the info. I remember Hollywood did the same thing when 'Hannibal' came out....Gary Oldman isn't even in the credits for the film, but we all know he was Mason Verger. I have a feeling they are doing the same thing.

I saw it for the 1st time last Saturday when I saw Stranger Than Fiction at my local AMC theater and while I think the teaser poster gets the point across, I expected a more subtle poster.
