Wow shocked too see there's no thread about this movie yet, Can't wait to see it, not playing in my city but my Dad saw it last night and he told me on the phone that he loved it. Ridley Scott is one of my favorite directors so I will definitely be checking this one out... anyone see it yet?

I might see this in theaters...if not I'll def check it out on dvd. Looks like it could be pretty good, but also looks like it could be boring...

Ridley is one of my favourite filmmakers as well. However, this is the first film he has ever made that I have no interest in seeing. It was just looks really dull.

The trailer was uninspired -- wealthy materialist retreats to the past and learns how to live the simple life, I know it's not the story itself that matters but how it's told, but come on.
Crowe is a really good actor, and it's sort of sad to see that the failure of this film at the box office, as well as Cinderella Man, in combination with the phone incident, has lowered his stock.

With a release of 2,066 theaters yeah it should have been able to open with more than 3.2mil BUT I am a strong believer that box-office does not represent a films quality this film had a very small amount of advertising, I have yet to see a commercial on T.V. Like I said in my post above I will definitely be seeing this!

I already said it in the box office numbers thread, but this seemed like it was dumped by Fox. It was not well-received in Toronto and reviews have been poor overall. It didn't seem to get a strong marketing push or much studio support. I think they knew they had a stinker on their hands. A PTA of $1,800 with a star like Crowe in the lead is astoundingly bad. Releasing it on such a crowded weekend certainly didn't help either, but then again there may not have been a better time to release this.

I haven't seen this but I've seen clips and things - Crowe looks totally wrong for the part. I like him when he's been interviewed more than his acting performance in this same as that movie about maths.

I heard from someone who saw the movie that this is a very different type of roll for Crowe. Still want to check it out but doesn't look like it's playing any where remotely close to here.
