Hello,

I have been working on a lot of James Bond reviews lately (see Reviews section and especially Review Thunderball where I am posting most of the reviews). After completing Dr.No’s review I noticed how James Bond and Capt. James T.Kirk are alike.

Both characters are called James, work for governments that ask that they travel a lot and cover great distances to meet a lot of people. Most of those people try to kill these men who have to deploy a great deal of psychology, strategy, special weapons, vehicles, gadgets to fight back and win.

Both were given their first chance to entertain us during the 60s and their franchises are still alive after nearly 40 years of action. They are photogenic, charismatic and attract masses of attractive women that either one knows how to take care of.

Those threads have hosted a lot of confrontations between characters from different universes or companies. I am now asking you in the interest of having a good time on the forums to tell me who, in your opinion between Bond & Kirk.

1- Would win in a fist fight and gun fight?
2- Is more cunning?
3- Is more talented with women?

James Bond would kick Kirk's ass up and down the friggin' block!

He is better with the ladies, he is trained as an expert marksman by MI6 and the Royal British Navy and he is by far more cunning.

Plus, he knows a kick-ass car when he see's one. :D

There really is no contest, Bond beats Kirk in every way imaginable.

Fanboyism aside, from a completely practical perspective, Bond would lay waste to Kirk. Even if Kirk was aboard the Enterprise, and Bond in an Aston Martin, I still think Bond would find a way to win, because he's just that inventive. He's a scrapper.

I am not following you, what do you mean by that? Man DangerCart's answers make me laugh loud everytime. I remember a while back when we were discussing Jason Statham for Bond, he replied He's to bald! I laughed so bad.

Here's what I think about the second element of the present topic:

2-I’d say Kirk, the guy is really tricky, deeply cerebral and a manipulative strategist. Bond is feisty but nowhere near as brilliant as Kirk for sure.

One major difference between the two - the franchises that is - is that the Bond franchise hasn't deteriorated with age - and I've just seen Casino Royale, if anything it's getting better.

For some reason i doubt that we have seen the last of the StarTrek universe, has you know Red it has bounced back on several occasions. It is 11h20am saturday November 18, in an hour i will hit the film theatre for Casino. Funny how i can't seem to be able to quit the franchise, being tired of that same recipe.

I'm not saying that the Star Trek franchise is dead or will die out; I understand there's a new spinoff movie in the works. I'm saying that while Bond continues to thrive, the Star Trek movies has seen it's share of disappointments - especially with the last movie. The most recent series was stuck on UPN and eventually had to be cancelled, though it did last a few seasons.

The Next Generation films besides First Contact are so bad, i don't understand how they could have people involved, money invested and get to actually be in theatres. TV movies at best.

I recently started season one of Enterprise and am starting to enjoy the characters, it is very basic compared to the other series but it is still good sci-fi. Archer and the others are the less of everything, yet i relate to them. I also like that theme they have.

I should have my Casino Royale review ready for monday morning. What a great trailer the new Spidey 3 is.

1-James Bond wins any fight because that’s his business, Kirk is a good fighter who beat Spock or Khan even when he shouldn’t be able to. But I think it isn’t essential that the captain of a starship be a good fighter he has security for that and the phasers are also very slow.

I have always been convinced that the Wachowski brothers were inspired by Will Smith's role as an agent of the MIB on Agent Smith. Has this ever been confirmed or is it just me? Why do I even bother with that question both do the same thing, keep the truth hidden from people.

Exactly! The two have very different jobs and thus have different training. Bond is trained to be a one man army, so of course he would beat Kirk in a one-on-one fight. Kirk is a Starship Captain. He has been trained to be a leader who knows how to delegate authority and demand respect from his subordinates. So if they were to both fight with a crew of 430 people behind them, then Kirk would probably win. Bond would most likely be overwhelmed if he had to command that many people (unless he did so in a Bond movie I haven't seen).

Anyway, for such reasons you really can't compare them. Consider they are from two different genres, as well. Bond movies are adrenaline-fueled action movies. Star Trek is hardcore science fiction, and as such, tends to be more intellectual. Kirk himself, while definitely a man of action, is more of a thinking man's action hero.

I see you clearly accept that part. Kirk is a mastermind and far more cunning than Bond or Blofeld (mostly relies on melodrama than actually doing something) Kirk wins question 2 easy.
