MY PREDICTIONS
1. THE SWEETEST THING - 17 MILLION (Cameron Diaz will prove she can open a movie with The Sweetest Thing. Cameron is such a cutie and is a lot of fun to watch. And that isn't just my opinion, that's a fact, it's impossible not to love her. The movie will appeal to girls and guys and with no other romantic comedies standing in it's way, it should have a superb opening. Look for it to take the #1 spot at the Box Office with a possible opening of 17 Million.)
2. CHANGING LANES - 15.5 MILLION (It's been getting good reviews and should have good word of mouth, but I don't picture it having a huge opening. My prediction of 15.5 Million is the maximum I think it will open with. I've heard a lot of people say that from the previews they couldn't tell what it was about. And I must admit I was a little confused about it's plot as well. But other than that the advertising is pretty good and it looks thrilling. Something that might help have a negative effect on it's opening is the amount of adult thrillers out recently. With Panic Room still going strong and High Crimes entering only it's second weekend, Changing Lanes has some competition. It should still do well but Panic Room and High Crimes should prevent it from having a huge opening.)
3. PANIC ROOM - 12 MILLION
4. ICE AGE - 9.6 MILLION
5. HIGH CRIMES - 9 MILLION
6. THE ROOKIE - 8.9 MILLION
7. FRAILTY - 6 MILLION (It's on less than 1,500 screens this weekend and even though the TV spots are great it will have a modest opening, but good word of mouth should carry it to at least 25-30 Million if not more. It could be a spring sleeper hit like Final Destination was.)
8. CLOCKSTOPPERS - 5.1 MILLION
9. VAN WILDER - 4.1 MILLION
10. BLADE 2 - 3.9 MILLION
11. BIG TROUBLE - 2 MILLION
12. A BEAUTIFUL MIND - 1.8 MILLION
13. WE WERE SOLDIERS - 1.8 MILLION
14. E.T. - 1.7 MILLION
15. LORD OF THE RINGS - 1.2 MILLION
16. Y TU MAMA TAMBIEN - 0.9
17. MONSTERS BALL - 0.8
18. RESIDENT EVIL - 0.8
19. KISSING JESSICA STEIN - 0.8
20. SHOWTIME - 0.7
21. DEATH TO SMOOCHY - 0.6
And somewhere in the top 50 will be NEW BEST FRIEND, I predict and opening weekend of 150,000 and a finish of 250,000-300,000.
