MY PREDICTIONS

1. THE SWEETEST THING - 17 MILLION (Cameron Diaz will prove she can open a movie with The Sweetest Thing. Cameron is such a cutie and is a lot of fun to watch. And that isn't just my opinion, that's a fact, it's impossible not to love her. The movie will appeal to girls and guys and with no other romantic comedies standing in it's way, it should have a superb opening. Look for it to take the #1 spot at the Box Office with a possible opening of 17 Million.)
2. CHANGING LANES - 15.5 MILLION (It's been getting good reviews and should have good word of mouth, but I don't picture it having a huge opening. My prediction of 15.5 Million is the maximum I think it will open with. I've heard a lot of people say that from the previews they couldn't tell what it was about. And I must admit I was a little confused about it's plot as well. But other than that the advertising is pretty good and it looks thrilling. Something that might help have a negative effect on it's opening is the amount of adult thrillers out recently. With Panic Room still going strong and High Crimes entering only it's second weekend, Changing Lanes has some competition. It should still do well but Panic Room and High Crimes should prevent it from having a huge opening.)
3. PANIC ROOM - 12 MILLION
4. ICE AGE - 9.6 MILLION
5. HIGH CRIMES - 9 MILLION
6. THE ROOKIE - 8.9 MILLION
7. FRAILTY - 6 MILLION (It's on less than 1,500 screens this weekend and even though the TV spots are great it will have a modest opening, but good word of mouth should carry it to at least 25-30 Million if not more. It could be a spring sleeper hit like Final Destination was.)
8. CLOCKSTOPPERS - 5.1 MILLION
9. VAN WILDER - 4.1 MILLION
10. BLADE 2 - 3.9 MILLION
11. BIG TROUBLE - 2 MILLION
12. A BEAUTIFUL MIND - 1.8 MILLION
13. WE WERE SOLDIERS - 1.8 MILLION
14. E.T. - 1.7 MILLION
15. LORD OF THE RINGS - 1.2 MILLION
16. Y TU MAMA TAMBIEN - 0.9
17. MONSTERS BALL - 0.8
18. RESIDENT EVIL - 0.8
19. KISSING JESSICA STEIN - 0.8
20. SHOWTIME - 0.7
21. DEATH TO SMOOCHY - 0.6

And somewhere in the top 50 will be NEW BEST FRIEND, I predict and opening weekend of 150,000 and a finish of 250,000-300,000.

I don't think THE SWEETEST THING will make that little either. I was originally thinking 13-14 Million, but now I just have a feeling it will be higher. It's got a good chance.

Ideal's Predictions

1.Changing Lanes $17.2 million
2.The Sweetest Thing $14.7 million
3.Panic Room $13.3 million
4.Frailty $11.6 million
5.High Crimes $10.7 million
6.Ice Age $10.5 million
7.The Rookie $9.2 million
8.Clockstoppers $5.0 million
9.Blade II $3.8 million
10.Van Wilder $3.5 million

Changing Lanes has major starpower. The film has a great trailer and the combination of Ben Affleck and Samuel L. Jackson should give the film a nice first place finish.

The Sweetest Thing is an "iffy". It's got Cameron Diaz and its the only real romantic comedy out in the market right now, however, the film is rated R, which could hurt its Box Office chances.

Frailty will be this seasons sleeper hit, I'm sure of it!

I agree with you ideal about Frailty, but I don't think it will have a very big opening. I have a feeling good word of mouth could help it gross 4 or 5 times what it opened with. I'd say it will have an opening weekend of 7-8 Million, but my final guess is either 7.1 or 7.4 Million.

Changing Lanes is a good action film that people will see. And good reviews will spread.

The Sweetest thing looks like all other Cameron Diaz romantic comedy films. And it wont do to well, maybe worse than what I predicted.

New Best Friend - ?
Fraility - it will be good but not to many know about it.

I never do this, but I sent in my predictions to boxofficemojo.com this week. We'll see how I fare with this forecast:

1) Changing Lanes - 16m
2) The Sweetest Thing - 13m
3) Panic Room - 11.5m
4) Ice Age - 9.5m
5) High Crimes - 8.5m
6) Frailty - 8m
7) The Rookie - 7.5m
8) Blade II - 4.5m
9) Clockstoppers - 4m
10) Van Wilder - 3.8m

I'm most excited to see "Frailty". It's getting terrific reviews and I am a dedicated Bill Paxton fan. It should coast well on word-of-mouth on a meager $11 million budget.
