I was just wondering which one you guys think will have the biggest opening next weekend. I've seen varying predictions on both of the films. I've seen predictions ranging from $8-$25 million on both of the films. Personally, I am looking more forward to Changing Lanes, but The Sweetest Thing looks like it might be able to take the top spot.
ill be very surprised with a sweetest victory...
i dont see diaz and applegate taking over samuel l. and affleck
changing lanes -- 23 million
the sweetest thing -- 14 million

I think The Sweetest Thing should take the number 1 spot. It's been advertised much more than Changing Lanes, and a romantic comedy with a big star can always cash in the bucks.
over here, changing lanes has been advertised a bunch... havent seen a thing for the sweetest thing.
i didnt even know another movie was coming out besides changing lanes.

Well, personally, ill be seeing TST - mainly because its my g/f`s birthday, and I told her she can see whatever she wants. But as for which one will make more - TST again. It has been advertised to all hell over here, and people seem to like those kinds of movies.

Hmmm.. which will make more money? A generic chick flick featuring skinny blonde girlies(not enough of them in Hollywood right) or a generic road rage thriller with Ben Asslick and Sammy Jackson playing Angry Black Man for the billionth time.
I hope for Frailty. Go see it dudes!!

I dont see much interest in either of these films.
If I had to choose one it'd be Sweetest but I really hate that cheesy flying aluminum foil effect in the preview. That part ruined it for me.
I'm looking forward to Frailty which is strangely being promoted with reviews by filmmakers. I'm a bit skeptical about the millionth movie to come out in the past few years about someone that can talk to the dead.

CHANGING LANES is getting good reviews. Even the much-maligned Affleck is garnering the best reviews of his life. But the subject matter just doesn't interest me. And the Affleck/Jackson combo is even less appealing. I get the feeling the general public shares the same lack of enthusiasm. It may be the wrong time to release THE SWEETEST THING. There are already two female-driven movies in the market. Another one (MURDER BY NUMBERS) opens next weekend. It needs good reviews to stand out. The reviews so far have been pretty bad. I predict one of them will open at #1 (I couldn't care less which one), but it won't be huge. $16 million, at best.

I think The Sweetest Thing will get the #1 spot, but, like max, said, it won't make a whole lot.

I read an early review of Changing Lanes, from Roger Ebert. He gave it four stars! Damn, I was surprised to see that...
He didn't like The Sweetest Thing (star and a half), but he really liked Cameron Diaz.
Also, he gave Frailty four stars as well!

I think THE SWEETEST THING will open in the #1 spot, with around $19 million, and CHANGING LANES to pull a close second with $17 million.
go check out rottentomatoes.com and see what the critics say about these movies.
i hope the sweetest thing bombs, but all the dopey girls will check it out and it will make 14 million.
changing lanes has been getting great reviews and it will definitely make near 20 mil... i say 19.3

I'm going to guess that Changing Lanes pulls up in the lead. Ben Affleck was on Jay Leno last night and my husband and I were totally cracking up. In general it was a great appearance and I think that might have some positive impact on people choosing to see the movie.
Jay also had some comments about how well done the movie was and how well written and he seemed very genuine in the comments, not like he HAD to say them etc.
This morning the moustache guy on the Today show also gave Changing Lanes the Silver Scissors award. He said this is the 2nd movie that deserved it this year. The movie is "A cut above the rest."
This is the one I'm going to push to see this weekend.
However on a related note we did see a commercial while watching for The Sweetest Thing and my husband seemed somewhat interested. He knew Christina Applegate growing up. She used to live down the street.

I thought you said that test screenning reviews don't really matter.
Anyways, I can't make up my mind on whether to see Frailty or Changing Lanes. I hope Sweetest Thing bombs, and the director gets really mad and sues every penny that Diaz is worth, and therefore she gets really poor and has to move out on the streets. *Sigh*, If only it would happen.

I wasn't referring to test screening reviews. I was talking about actual reviews from critics. They do help the box-office, especially if the movie's target audiencce are adults. Adults read reviewS. The generally favorable reviews will no doubt help CHANGING LANES's box-office. Btw, when I said that test screening reviews don't matter, I was talking about how untrustworthy they are.

For some reason i don't see the sweetest thing doing that well at all, not number one, maybe not even number 2, Changing lanes will take number 1 spot i belive.

IMO Frailty seems like it'll be the best out of the three. It's been getting good word of mouth, Stephen King and James Cameron liked it. Or they could have been paid to say that. Or maybe they've been telling the truth, because so far it has a fresh rating on rottentomatoes.com, which is something rare for recent horror movies.
