okay, here's the skinny. we've all had our scripts sent to producers and have them come back with some f***ing reader's 1-page critique of our screenplay and how it sucks (realizing, all the while, that that reader is trying to get HIS screenplay read and bought, too).

for those who've gone through the process, you know how infuriating it is. your family, friends, girlfriends, boyfriends, etc. probably tells you your script is the best thing since sliced bread. well, if that was true, why did it get REJECTED?

here's my take: loved ones will tell you anything because they love you and want to encourage you -- that, and they have no idea what a script looks like, or even realizes that someone actually writes those words their favorite actors say in the movies.

here's my plan: screenwriters who've finished scripts and are planning on sending them out get together and swap scripts. you've registered your scripts with the wga, haven't you? well, don't worry about people stealing your idea, it ain't gonna happen. if your name was william goldman or robert towne, okay, they MIGHT consider stealing it, but trust me, no one's gonna steal the idea of some internet screenwriter. so get a grip.

how it works: contact via email/icq/etc and send each other your scripts (your best script, the one you're going to send out, the one you think will get sold), and you'll get somebody else's script. you can pick and choose or just take somebody's script at random. you read that script and then you critique it. don't go into reader mode -- go into the mode of a movie fan. is it good? structured correctly? good dialogue? good motivation? etc. etc. i.e. BE AN OBJECTIVE CRITIC!

once you finish, send the critique back to the writer and take it from there.

so...is anyone interested? here's my info:

P.S. please, if you're not serious, don't get involved. i don't want to waste my time reading a 10-year old script that he's just "dabbling" in. serious inqueries only, please

This is a very good idea, Yojimbo. I have never written a full screenplay, so unfortunately I can't take part in this. I have written short films, but they are all in finnish. It's a lot harder for me to write in english.

I love the idea but I can sadly say that I myself have not quite finished a single script. I have about 6 of them - all 3/4ths or partially written. I am working very hard at finishing one of them and once I get it registered with WGA then I'll send it out.
