Hey everybody,

An absolutely absurd but very true article has just been released today by "The Scotsman" newspaper quoting that when Sean Connery turned down the role of Gandalf in the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy, he missed out on a huge fortune.

According to New Line producers, when Connery was first approached about the films, they told Peter Jackson that Connery will probably be earning 10-15% of the total worldwide earnings for ALL 3 FILMS!!! That's right ladies and gentlemen, Connery would have earned an estimated $423 MILLION DOLLARS or $225 MILLION POUNDS!

That to me is absolutely absurd but Connery never took the role anyway because he flat out didn't understand the story so it went to the genius Sir Ian McKellen.

So I just had to run that by all of you as I still can't believe they would give that much money to an actor. Wow!

Anyway, here is the link below and tell us what you think:

CONNERY: "They bring a bow and arrow, you bring a sword! They bring a battle axe, you bring an enchanted mace with 4000 damage and nemesis enchantment! THAT is the Middle Earth way!"

Yeah, that could've worked.
Well, Ian McKellan got paid instead and you know Magneto ain't mad at him!

You really think so? I reckon Ian would still have been better than Connery.

Me too. I feel that if Sean had been cast, I would have spent the entire time thinking "Wow, Sean Connery sure looks funny with that pointy hat."

Ian did a great job, I think.

McKellan is far and away the best choice for the role. Plus, I don't think Connery really NEEDS any money, so it probably doesn't matter how much he could have earned. IMO

At least Connery was good enough to realize that he wasn't right for the part because he didn't understand it. The franchise and its fans are better off for it; McKellan did a fantastic job with the role, even garnering an Academy Award nomination. No harm, no foul. Who knows? Maybe the movies wouldn't have been as successful with Connery in the role. We'll never know.

At least he had the good sense to turn down Lord of the Rings and do League of Extraordinary Gentlemen instead
