300
Grindhouse

But this list is pretty bad I mean I cant believe Simpsons is number 2 and Pirates 3 is number 14. And Evan Alimighty is higher than 28 Weeks Later, Ghost Rider, AVP 2, and Day of the Dead....

It's a discussion forum, like this one. I don't think it's an official GameSpot list; some person named eXor512 posted it.

I try to avoid sequels for the most part in my 20 most anticipated movies so for the record, I am very much looking forward to: Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End, Spider-man 3, Ocean's 13 and The Bourne Ultimatum.
Last year I had 40 listed + runners-up (in the other most anticipated movies thread) so I'm doing the same this year. Oh and in addition, several of these are carry-overs from 2006 that got delayed.
I have not included Battle Angel, Ender's Game, Shantaram, Dirty Tricks, The Fantastic Mr. Fox, Guerrilla, White Jazz, Where the Wild Things Are, Westworld, Logan's Run, The Rum Diary, or The Brothers Bloom as I believe they are going to come out in 2008.
*ETA: Forgot about THE KINGDOM which should be somewhere in the 30s here.
All plot outlines courtesy of IMDb.
Runners-Up: Vantage Point, Rogue, Alice, August Rush, The Number 23, Ferris Wheel, 30 Days of Night, Fracture, Killshot, Black Snake Moan, The Simpsons Movie, Awake, Romulus, My Father, Alpha Dog, Ratatouille, Live Free or Die Hard
40. I AM LEGEND
Director: Francis Lawrence
Screenwriter: Akiva Goldsman
Cast: Will Smith, Salli Richardson, Charlie Tahan, Alice Braga
Story: Robert Neville is the last man alive. He busies himself with preparing for a nightly attack from the rest of the world - all of which have transformed into blood-thirsty vampires.
Thoughts: Story sounds cool...never read the book but I want to, and Constantine was stylistically well done.
39. GRINDHOUSE
Director: Robert Rodriguez & Quentin Tarantino
Screenwriter: Robert Rodriguez & Quentin Tarantino
Cast: Naveen Andrews, Michael Biehn, Josh Brolin, Rosario Dawson, Stacy Ferguson, Vanessa Ferlito, Rose McGowan, Freddy Rodriguez, Eli Roth, Kurt Russell, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Marley Shelton
Story: Two full length feature horror movies written by Quentin Tarantino & Robert Rodriguez put together as a two film features. Including fake movie trailers in between both movies.
Thoughts: Want to see it but I'm wary of all these "homages" that Tarantino and Rodriguez (mainly Tarantino) seem to be into.
38. HOT FUZZ
Director: Edgar Wright
Screenwriter: Simon Pegg & Edgar Wright
Cast: Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, Jim Broadbent, Paddy Considine, Steve Coogan, Timothy Dalton, Martin Freeman, Bill Nighy
Story: Jealous colleagues conspire to get a top London cop (Pegg) transferred to a small town and paired with a witless new partner (Frost). On the beat, the pair stumble upon a series of suspicious accidents and events.
Thoughts: It looks like fun...loved Shaun of the Dead.
37. LUCKY YOU
Director: Curtis Hanson
Screenwriter: Eric Roth & Curtis Hanson
Cast: Eric Bana, Drew Barrymore, Robert Duvall, Jean Smart, Debra Messing, Robert Downey Jr.
Story: A hotshot poker player tries to win a tournament in Vegas, but is fighting a losing battle with his personal problems.
Thoughts: This was on my last year's list and I still want to see this but I'm worried cause the first trailer did nothing for me. But I still think it could be great and I love poker.
36. THE AIR I BREATHE
Director: Jieho Lee
Screenwriter: Jieho Lee & Bob DeRosa
Cast: Kevin Bacon, John Cho, Julie Delpy, Brendan Fraser, Andy Garcia, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Emile Hirsch, Kelly Hu, Forest Whitaker
Story: A drama based on an ancient Chinese proverb that breaks life down into four emotional cornerstones: happiness, pleasure, sorrow and love.
Thoughts: This would be higher but I'm wary of the same thing happening for this as Crash...I was REALLY looking forward to Crash and ended up being...MAJORLY disappointed. This, for me, seems to be the same type of deal, ensemble movie from out of nowhere that could become a big one...I just hope it doesn't try to hammer in messages.
35. 1408
Director: Mikael Hafstrom
Screenwriter: Scott Alexander, Matt Greenberg, & Larry Karaszewski
Cast: John Cusack, Samuel L. Jackson, Mary McCormack
Story: A man who specializes in debunking paranormal occurrences checks into the fabled room 1408 in the Dolphin Hotel. Soon after settling in, he confronts genuine terror.
Thoughts: Creepy premise, good screenwriters...
34. NEXT
Director: Lee Tamahori
Screenwriter: Gary Goldman, Paul Bernbaum, Jared Chandler & Jonathan Hensleigh
Cast: Nicolas Cage, Julianne Moore, Jessica Biel
Story: A man who can see into his own future has to avoid capture by a government organization and win the love of a woman who will be the mother of his child.
Thoughts: Again, interesting premise and I really like Julianne Moore and Nicolas Cage. And who doesn't like Jessica Biel :p.
33. I, LUCIFER
Director: Dan Harris
Screenwriter: Michael Dougherty, Dan Harris & David Logan
Cast: Daniel Craig, Ewan McGregor
Story: Based on Glen Duncan's best seller. God is giving Satan a last shot at redemption: Satan must live out a blameless life as a human.
Thoughts: This just sounds like an interesting storyline - I'm also curious to see the directorial debut of the screenwriter of X2, and Superman Returns.
32. QUID PRO QUO
Director: Carlos Brooks
Screenwriter: Carlos Brooks
Cast: Nick Stahl, Vera Farmiga
Story: A semi-paralyzed radio reporter is sent out to investigate a story that leads him into an odd subculture and on a journey of disturbing self-realization.
Thoughts: I'm mainly interested in this cause Nick Stahl rocks and I'm really digging Vera Farmiga after Running Scared and The Departed. Premise, as a bonus, also sounds intriguing.
31. SOUTHLAND TALES
Director: Richard Kelly
Screenwriter: Richard Kelly
Cast: The Rock, Seann William Scott, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Mandy Moore, Cheri Oteri, Holmes Osborne, Will Sasso, Miranda Richardson, Jon Lovitz, Kevin Smith, Justin Timberlake, Amy Poehler, Lou Taylor Pucci, Bai Ling, Janeane Garofalo, Christopher Lambert
Story: Set in 2008 where a three-day heatwave in Los Angeles culminates in a huge Fourth of July party.
Thoughts: In my top 10 anticipated last year...nervous though after the terrible Cannes/JoBlo reviews. Still want to see it though.
30. SWEENEY TODD
Director: Tim Burton
Screenwriter: John Logan
Cast: Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter, (Possibly) Sacha Baron Cohen
Story: Based on the hit Broadway musical which tells the infamous story of Benjamin Barker, a.k.a Sweeney Todd, who sets up a barber shop down in London which is the basis for a sinister partnership with his fellow tenant, Mrs. Lovett.
Thoughts: Burton with Depp again + Borat possible? I'm there.
29. CELL
Director: Eli Roth
Screenwriter: Scott Alexander, Larry Karaszewski & Eli Roth
Cast: Unknown
Story: Author Stephen King provides his own horrific spin on cell phones in this modern day zombie epic, as people must survive in a world tragically affected by technology.
Thoughts: Loved the first half of the book. Could turn out really crazy and amazing. I love apocalyptic films, but I hope the second half is revised a little cause it definitely wasn't as good as the first half.
28. THE LOOKOUT
Director: Scott Frank
Screenwriter: Scott Frank
Cast: Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Jeff Daniels, Isla Fisher, Carla Gugino
Story: After experiencing a brain injury, and facing a mental disability, janitor (Gordon-Levitt) becomes part of a heist at the bank which employs him.
Thoughts: Gordon-Levitt is easily one of the top 3 best young actors working today. Rest of cast is good too.
27. KNOCKED UP
Director: Judd Apatow
Screenwriter: Judd Apatow
Cast: Katherine Heigl, Seth Rogen, Leslie Mann, Paull Rudd, Tim bagley, Jay Baruchel
Story: A young guy finds out he impregnated his one night stand.
Thoughts: Sounds funny, and I quite liked The 40-Year Old Virgin (Judd Apatow's last film) so...
26. DARK MATTER
Director: Shi-Zheng Chen
Screenwriter: Billy Shebar
Cast: Liu Ye, Aidn Quinn, Meryl Streep
Story: Based on actual events, a Chinese university student responds violently when his chances for a Nobel Prize are dashed by school politics.
Thoughts: I'm most intrigued by Meryl Streep's involvement in this, but also, the story just struck a chord with me.
25. AMERICAN GANGSTER
Director: Ridley Scott
Screenwriter: Steven Zaillian
Cast: Denzel Washington, Russell Crowe, Common, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Carla Gugino
Story: A drug lord smuggles heroin into Harlem during the 1970s by hiding the stash inside the coffins of American soldiers returning from Vietnam.
Thoughts: Drug movie with Crowe and Washington? Awesome...with Scott as well? Fantastic.
24. SUNSHINE
Director: Danny Boyle
Screenwriter: Alex Garland
Cast: Rose Byrne, Chris Evans, Cillian Murphy, Hiroyuki Sanada, Benedict Wong, Michelle Yeoh, Cliff Curtis, Troy Garity, Mark Strong
Story: 50 years into the future, the Sun begins to die, and Earth is dying as a result. A team of astronauts are sent to revive the Sun.
Thoughts: Sounds like a neat sci-fi flick. I really liked the first half of Boyle and Garland's 28 Days Later though they went in a direction I HATED afterwards.
23. 3:10 TO YUMA
Director: James Mangold
Screenwriter: Stuart Beattie & Michael Brandt
Cast: Christian Bale, Russell Crowe, Peter Fonda, Ben Foster, Gretchen Mol
Thoughts: All about the pedigree on this one...Mangold, Beattie, Bale, Crowe, Fonda.
22. THE OTHER SIDE
Director: David Michaels
Screenwriter: David Michaels & Phil Reeves
Cast: Jim Broadbent, Ryan Gosling, Eddie Griffin, Anjelica Huston, Jason Lee, Dave Matthews, Brittany Murphy, Giovanni Ribisi, Fiona Shaw
Story: An over-achieving science scholar tries to solve a bizarre mystery involving the residents of a remote island and ultimately discovers something she could have never predicted.
Thoughts: Mainly for the premise but also for the solid cast.
21. THE COLOSSUS
Director: Sean Mathias
Screenwriter: Sean Mathias & Myer Taub
Cast: Colin Firth, Ian McKellen, Susan Sarandon, Rachel Weisz
Story: An ornithologist at the turn of the 20th century transports hundreds of songbirds to an ailing prime minister in South Africa and falls for a political activist trying to stop the impending Boer War.
Thoughts: It's Rachel Weisz...I'll see anything with her in it. + the title is cool and the storyline sounds interesting enough.

20. THE OTHER BOLEYN GIRL
Director: Justin Chadwick
Screenwriter: Peter Morgan
Cast: Natalie Portman, Scarlett Johansson, Eric Bana
Story: Two sisters contend for the affection of King Henry VIII.
Thoughts: Natalie and Scarlett in a movie together...need I say more?
19. LIONS FOR LAMBS
Director: Robert Redford
Screenwriter: Matthew Carnahan
Cast: Tom Cruise, Robert Redford, Meryl Streep
Story: A platoon of U.S. soldiers are stationed in Afghanistan.
Thoughts: Stellar 3-person cast. Redford's had a pretty decent track record, directing-wise.
18. SMOKIN' ACES
Director: Joe Carnahan
Screenwriter: Joe Carnahan
Cast: Jeremy Piven, Ben Affleck, Jason Bateman, Peter Berg, Common, Alicia Keys, Andy Garcia, Ben Affleck, Ryan Reynolds, Ray Liotta, Martin Hendersen
Story: When a Las Vegas performer-turned-snitch named Buddy Israel (Piven) decides to turn state's evidence and testify against the mob, it seems that a whole lot of people would like to make sure he's no longer breathing.
Thoughts: Partly for the Piven (best part of Entourage, easily), partly for the rest of the cast, partly for Carnahan, and partly for the cool-Snatch vibe I'm getting from this.
17. THE VISITING/THE INVASION
Director: Oliver Hirschbiegel
Screenwriter: Dave Kajganich
Cast: Nicole Kidman, Daniel Craig, Jeremy Northam, Jeffrey Wright
Story: As a Washington psychiatrist (Kidman) unearths the origin of an alien epidemic, she also discovers her son might be the only way it can be stopped.
Thoughts: Alien invasion movies are always cool...I like Kidman and I loved Hirschbiegel's Downfall so that indicates to me that this will be better than the average alien movie. I'm just hoping it's not another Forgotten.
16. SHOOT 'EM UP
Director: Michael Davis
Screenwriter: Michael Davis
Cast: Clive Owen, Monica Bellucci, Paul Giamatti
Story: A man named Mr. Smith (Owen) delivers a woman's baby during a shootout, and is then called upon to protect the newborn from the army of gunmen.
Thoughts: BELLUCCI. Also Clive Owen's coolness but yeah, all about the Bellucci. That and it just looks like a blast.
15. I'M NOT THERE
Director: Todd Haynes
Screenwriter: Todd Haynes & Oren Moverman
Cast: Christian Bale, Cate Blanchett, Adrien Brody, David Cross, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Richard Gere, Bruce Greenwood, Heath Ledger, Ben Whishaw, Michelle Williams
Story: Ruminations on the life of Bob Dylan, where seven characters embody a different aspect of the musician's life and work.
Thoughts: Really really intriguing premise with an AMAZING cast. Haynes is a good director.
14. 300
Director: Zack Snyder
Screenwriter: Zack Snyder, Kurt Johnstad, & Michael Gordon
Cast: Gerard Butler, David Wenham, Dominic West, Tom Wisdom, Michael Fassbender, Rodrigo Santoro,
Story: Based on Frank Miller's graphic novel about the Battle of Thermopylae in 480 B.C.
Thoughts: Neat visual look.
13. EASTERN PROMISES
Director: David Cronenberg
Screenwriter: Steven Knight
Cast: Viggo Mortensen, Naomi Watts, Armin Mueller-Stahl, Vincent Cassel
Story: While trying to learn the identity of a young prostitute who died during child birth, a nurse (Watts) is exposed an underworld racket that is about to be broken up by the police.
Thoughts: Gotta support fellow Canadians :p...no, just the fact that Watts is in a Cronenberg movie intrigues me. Cassel and Mortensen are both good too and the storyline sounds a little different from the usual Cronenberg (more like History of Violence) in a good way.
12. THE DARK KNIGHT
Director: Christopher Nolan
Screenwriter: Jonathan Nolan & Christopher Nolan
Cast: Christian Bale, Heath Ledger, Michael Caine, Gary Oldman
Story: Batman and Gordon find alliance with a newly appointed DA Harvey Dent to stop a vicious killer with a warped sense of humor known only as The Joker, a threat to both the good, and the evil of Gotham City.
Thoughts: The only sequel on here because I'm looking forward to it so much. Batman Begins is my favorite comic book movie. Nolan has never disappointed for me from The Following to The Prestige.
11. BE KIND REWIND
Director: Michel Gondry
Screenwriter: Michel Gondry
Cast: Jack Black, Kirsten Dunst, Mos Def, Mia Farrow, Danny Glover, Melonie Diaz
Story: A man (Black) whose brain becomes magnetized unintentionally destroys every tape in his friend's video store. In order to satisfy the store's most loyal renter, an aging woman with signs of dementia, the two men set out to remake the lost films, which include Back to the Future, The Lion King, and Robocop.
Thoughts: Wicked premise. Eternal Sunshine (10/10) and Science of Sleep (8/10) were both fantastic in my books. Jack Black with Gondry = even better.
10. ZODIAC
Director: David Fincher
Screenwriter: James Vanderbilt
Cast: Jake Gyllenhaal, Robert Downey Jr., Mark Ruffalo, Anthony Edwards, Brian Cox, Chloe Sevigny
Story: Based on the Robert Graysmith books about the real life notorious Zodiac, a serial killer who terrorized San Francisco with a string of seemingly random murders during the 1960s and 1970s.
Thoughts: Cool atmosphere of the first half of the trailer. Second half probably knocked this down one or two slots. But Fincher has done great work in the past.
09. THERE WILL BE BLOOD
Director: P.T. Anderson
Screenwriter: P.T. Anderson
Cast: Daniel Day-Lewis, Paul Dano, Kevin J. O'Connor, Ciarin Hines
Story: A story about family, greed, religion, and oil, centered around a turn-of-the-century Texas prospector (Daniel Day-Lewis) in the early days of the business.
Thoughts: New P.T. Anderson movie! That's not so out there as Punch-Drunk Love! I'm so there...
08. JUMPER
Director: Doug Liman
Screenwriter: David Goyer, Simon Kinberg, & Jim Uhls
Cast: Hayden Christensen, Samuel L. Jackson, Jamie Bell, Rachel Bilson, Tedy Dunn, Diane Lane, Michael Rooker
Story: A teenager from an abusive household discovers he can teleport from one place to another. He uses this ability to search for the man he believes is responsible for the death of his mother, drawing the attention of the NSA, and another kid with the same power.
Thoughts: I read this book when I was in elementary school and it was completely out of my mind until I heard the announcement for this and then I thought...cool! I loved the book back then and I'm intrigued to see the film version.
07. MR. MAGORIUM'S WONDER EMPORIUM
Director: Zach Helm
Screenwriter: Zach Helm
Cast: Natalie Portman, Dustin Hoffman, Jason Bateman
Story: Molly Mahoney (Portman) is the awkward and insecure manager of Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium, the strangest, most fantastic, most wonderful toy store in the world. But when Mr. Magorium, the 243 year-old eccentric who owns the store (Hoffman), bequeaths the store to her, a dark and ominous change begins to take over the once remarkable Emporium.
Thoughts: Stranger Than Fiction was a little underwhelming for me but this still sounds right up my alley.
06. MY BLUEBERRY NIGHTS
Director: Wong Kar Wai
Screenwriter: Lawrence Block & Wong Kar Wai
Cast: Norah Jones, David Strathairn, Jude Law, Natalie Portman, Ed Harris, Rachel Weisz
Story: A young woman (Jones) takes a soul-searching journey across America to resolve her questions about love while encountering a series of offbeat characters along the way.
Thoughts: It's a new Wong Kar Wai movie...that's all that matters. And he's assembled a phenomenal cast for his English language debut. I'm just concerned about the lack of Christopher Doyle.
05. THE FALL
Director: Tarsem Singh
Screenwriter: Dan Gilroy, Nico Soultanakis, & Tarsem Singh
Cast: Lee Pace, Catinca Untaru, Justine Waddell, Julian Bleach, Leo Bill, Marcus Wesley, Robin Smith, Daniel Caltagirone
Story: In a hospital a little girl with a broken collar bone meets a bedridden man who starts telling her a fantastical story which reflects his state of mind. As time goes by fiction and reality start to intertwine in this uplifting epic fantasy.
Thoughts: This seems to be pretty low-key right now but I REALLY REALLY was annoyed that I missed this at the Toronto International Film Festival. It sounds like next year's Pan's Labyrinth. I really enjoyed the fucked-up visuals of The Cell but this sounds like it could possibly even outdo that visually and be a great movie otherwise.
04. GONE BABY GONE
Director: Ben Affleck
Screenwriter: Ben Affleck & Aaron Stockard
Cast: Casey Affleck, Michelle Monaghan, Morgan Freeman, Ed Harris, Mark Margolis
Story: Based on the Dennis Lehane novel about two Boston area detectives investigating a little girl's kidnapping, which ultimately turns into a crisis both professionally and personally.
Thoughts: After The Black Dahlia disappointed last year, I hope this one doesn't. One of my favorite books and one that I hope Affleck doesn't screw up.
03. SYNECDOCHE
Director: Charlie Kaufman
Screenwriter: Charlie Kaufman
Cast: Philip Seymour Hoffman, Michelle Williams
Story: A playwright (Hoffman) struggles with his work and the women in his life.
Thoughts: It's Charlie Kaufman. DUH. Hoffman also boosts it up even more. It'd probably be #1 if I knew more about it.
02. THE CURIOUS CASE OF BENJAMIN BUTTON
Director: David Fincher
Screenwriter: Eric Roth
Cast: Brad Pitt, Cate Blanchett, Julia Ormond, Tilda Swinton
Story: An odd romance sparks between a woman of 30 and a man who, at 50, begins aging backwards.
Thoughts: Fincher's Fight Club and Se7en are both masterpieces. The Game is a great movie and Panic Room is fun. This premise just sounds ingeniously cool and I'm excited to see Fincher's take on it.
01. HIS DARK MATERIALS: THE GOLDEN COMPASS
Director: Chris Weitz
Screenwriter: Tom Stoppard & Chris Weitz
Cast: Nicole Kidman, Daniel Craig, Dakota Blue Richards, Eva Green, Ian McShane, Sam Elliott, (POSSIBLY) Eric Bana, Kevin Bacon, John Hurt
Story: In a parallel universe, young Lyra Belacqua journeys to the far North to save her best friend and other kidnapped children from terrible experiments by a mysterious organization.
Thoughts: I've been waiting for this movie for over five years now I think. I believe close to when I first started posting at JoBlo, the first news about this movie being possibly made was leaked. And I waited and waited and waited...and now it's finally happening. I would have preferred most of the other directors mentioned doing it over Weitz (Gilliam, Daldry, Mendes) though he's a better choice than Ratner would have been, but I'm just hoping and having faith that Weitz will pull off this incredible, incredible book. His Dark Materials is my favorite fantasy/sci-fi trilogy without question and I'm very afraid that it could be screwed up. That said, the casting is perfect so far - Kidman is exactly who I pictured all throughout as Mrs. Coulter. No other actress could play that role and I'm so glad Kidman signed on. I'm just thinking to myself over and over that when they picked Jackson for Lord of the Rings, people probably thought they were insane so I'm hoping the same thing applies here...that Weitz will pull off something that no one saw him capable of doing before.

Are these your most anticipated movies or your most anticipated movies of 2007? Cuz I'm afraid The Dark Knight won't be out until 2008.
