but is there a place on the web where I can learn the basis of his "laws" -lol.

I don't know if there is such a place. Field has written many books about screenwriting and his main point is that there are always basic rules you can relay on if you get into trouble with your script. He has defined and argumented all these tules very well and I think it's very useful to know them. You can always break the rules if you want, but you should know them so that you won't make mistakes with your writings.
