From expierence, I notice that for some of us it is difficult writing at home.
Take me for example.
I can only write at WORK. I don't know if its because of knowing am not supposed to and the idea that i don't wan't to get caught that pumps my adrenaline; but when I get home and start writing via MSword (for now), I can't get further than two sentence.
WHAT DO YOU DO FOR MOTIVATION?

I'm totally with you. probably 80% of my writing has been done at work. The only reason I don't write at home is because I'm married plus I've got two months till we have our first child (I'll never get on the computer once that happens)
But I like music to help me write - I don't do it anymore but if your not against it then I say smoke a big fat joint and just start writing.
(That's right - I said smoke a big fat one)
Also - make a goal for yourself. Say to yourself that you want to finish 3 pages by the end of the week, before you know it 6 weeks will have gone by and you'll have 20 or so pages - which ain't bad.
The best motivation for me is when someone on here sends me an email back after reading my unfinished script and tells me that they think it's great - that totally gets me in the writing mood.
That's why I'm saying that we should all be reading each others stuff and then posting our reviews on here.
okay I'm done.

I'm the opposite, I write at home. I never get time at work to have a lunch break let alone write.

I too can't seem to write at home anymore. What gets me going is, like crynot said, music. I often match a story with my head to a piece of music, and i continuessly listen to that song, get in the mood and write. By the end of the day I find out I have written a lot and listenede to the song for like 4-5 hours!!

Music is definitely the best inspiration. Especially musical scores for films and classical music. They work everytime.

I think it's a lot better to listen instrumental music. Since there are no lyrics, you have more freedom for your imagination. Also instrumental music is generally more atmospheric and visual than songs with lyrics. That's why I always listen to either classical music or film scores.

I was talking about something related to this just a couple of days ago with my friend. We were chatting about music videos and came to a conlusion: A good song is a kind of song from which you can make a good music video. I have a very varied taste from death metal to progressive jazz. From fluffy pop tunes to folk music. But I've noticed that a good song regardless of genre automatically gives a you a visual image of how it should look like. Bad songs don't do this.
I think it depends on the song's ability to work up emotions. It might be just the voice of the singer, or the rhytm, or the lyrics, or whatever, which gives you a "feel" for the song and that feel automatically gives you an image.
It doesn't work like this for everyone, of course, but it works for me.
For example I really like "Toxic" from Britney Spears despite being totally indifferent to her earlier music. The song automatically gives me a feeling which bring images to my head. I guess for me good songs are like portals to their own mini-universes and if a song fails to open that portal, I don't care for it.

Same here. I always write to movie scores, as I've said in previous threads asking a similar question. They inspire me more than anything -- short of women.
(And no, that above was not a joke. :) Women do inspire me. I just think there's no creation more perfect, in all their qualities and flaws, than women. They turn me on in every way, including writingwise. And yes, I'm a freak. ;) )

complete and utter silence. That's the only way I can write. As far as what inspires me to do so, I'd have to say that a good conversation with one of my nut job friends helps me oput the most. That or a shitty B movie. I love them.

I've found Beethoven a great help. I've spend the last few hours opening up a treatment which I thoguht was impossible to budge. There's only one massive, major problem still facing me :)
Can't decide what to do with my characters at the end (thoguh Ludwig helped me realise I had a problem with no pro-active characters... so I made it my bad guy!)
Actually, there still doesn't seem to be a way I can get a scene where they crash a hot-air-balloon, though I'm workin' on it (really!) :)

I tend to write more at work as well. The reason being is there are only two things a writer can do at a normal job...work or write (if you have a job where you can get away with it). There are no other fun things you can do but write.
But you get home and all of these distractions come up. Things like a girlfriend, housework, baseball game, writing posts on forums and yes...masterbating.
So when you get home, take away all your distractions (go rub one out) and write away.

Movies inspire me to write. I will watch a good movie and automatically be in the mood to write. I love movies with good dialogue, those get my juices flowing.
