I just watched this dvd and was impressed with the new footage that was added. It was done so seamlessly that I did'nt realize that it was all new stuff that was added. The only problem I had with the added footage was...
Mild Spoiler
The preacher really got on my nerves. He looked more like a satanic priest than a christian minister.

I don't know that I would call John Russo a hack, but I have to agree, I was not really very happy with the 30th anniversary edition of Night Of The Living Dead. The survivors Cut, which was a fan made project was actually more interresting, and it really wasn't all that either. I like most of the Russo books I have read and really enjoyed Midnight, outside of the terrible music, so I was let down with this cut of the film.

This was the version I saw first of the film as a kid and I was never fooled by what was real and what wasn't. The opening scene I thought someone had switched the original and the remake in the video store boxes because it was so obvious that it was new footage filmed recently just colored in black and white. And that preacher I wanted to fucking sodomize with Jason's machete! That guy makes what's her face in Maximum Overdrive sound like a peaceful hummingbird!
The only good thing I had to say about it was the car crash victims coming alive, and the new score was decent. But I'll stick with the original version.
STEER CLEAR OF THIS STEAMING PILE OF SHIT!

This is just about one of the dumbest ideas I ever heard. Why insert entirely newly shot sequences into a movie which is more than 30 years old. This makes no sense. Leave it be for GOD'S sake. Well thats all for now GOoD JOURNEY my fellow schmoes.

Yet more dumb news... remember that useless 3-D remake that came out last year? Well it's coming to dvd and they aren't including the 3-D feature. Hell that was probably the ONE reason to see it in the first place! Well thats all for now GOoD JOURNEY my fellow schmoes.

can't say i'm very surprised they're not including the 3D aspect of the film, the only thing which had me at all interested in it
as for the 30th Anniversary Edition of NOTLD, this is the release i was initially going to get before i luckily heard about Elite's Millennium Edition. after reading some stuff about this version i doubt i'll ever watch it, just sounds absolutely terrible...my curiousity might get the better of me though, that happens a lot

It's interesting to watch as a stand alone film and interesting to see what Russo has to offer, however, after watching it again after a long time, I can say it wasn't as bad as I remember the first time. Not saying it's a great film, it's still crap to a degree, so let me explain. What was cool? The beginning sequence at the prison and then to the graveyard was actually well done, as was most of the added footage. What kills it all though is the stuff they cut out. A little here and a little there that helps to kill the overall mood of what was originally there, that and the new synth soundtrack that was redone, that was horrible. Watching it out of curiosity with an open m ind though, it's not the worst ever.
