This movie sounds like THE IN CROWD 2. I've never even heard of it until just now and I haven't seen a preview for it either. But it's supposed to be opening April 12th.

PLOT:

It's January, the start of a new semester at exclusive Colby University nestled in the Carolina countryside. Near the campus, four young women prepare themselves for the final semester of their senior year. In her dingy apartment over the "He's Not Here Tavern," where she lives with her mother, ALICIA GLAZER (Mia Kirshner) organizes her school supplies. She is plain as well as poor. On the other side of town, in an exclusive row house, three beautiful and privileged young coeds start their day: sensuous HADLEY WESTON (Meredith Monroe), luxuriates in a bubble bath with a margarita in hand; her junk-food loving bulemic roommate JULIANNE McINTYRE (Rachel True) wolfs down a huge bowl of cereal and immediately runs into the bathroom to throw it up; and oversexed SYDNEY CONNORS (Dominique Swain) slowly wakes up next to her boyfriend, JOSH (Oliver Hudson), and some poor townie who is shocked to discover how she spent the night. Classes begin and Alicia is paired with Hadley to work on the all-important sociology class senior thesis project titled, "Lead, Follow or Get Out of the Way." At first rejected, Alicia is finally accepted into Hadley's clique where she is introduced to a world of privilege and dangerous thrills. But her attempts to become one of them ultimately land her in the hospital. As the local sheriff, ARTIE BONNER (Taye Diggs), tries to determine the chain of events that led to Alicia's collapse, his investigation casts a shadow of responsibility over the untouchable, affluent young women.

It sounds kind of lame but yet I want to see it, who knows, it might be good, it's by Sony Pictures Classics and they usually don't release mainstream movies. This could go either way. I do like Mia Kirshner, she was the hottie in NOT ANOTHER TEEN MOVIE, she played "The Cruelest Girl In School." It also stars Meredith Monroe who played Andie McPhee on Dawson's Creek. She was my favorite character during season 2 and I was always hoping she'd get into some movies. She's a very good actress, I was quite impressed with her, so I'm excited to see her in this movie. And Dominique Swain is pretty cute.

It could be good. I'll decide how bad I want to see it when I see previews for it.

What does everyone else think? Has anyone seen previews for it?

I haven't seen a damn bit of advertisement for this flick. If it's scheduled to open next week, with this little publicity, it'll be trampled by CHANGING LANES and FRAILTY. I probably won't check it out in theatres (as you commented, Mike, it sounds too much like THE IN CROWD 2), but maybe I'll give it a go on video.

The trailer for New Best Friend is actually decent, however like both of you have states, it does indeed look like The In Crowd II, but a much "raunchier" version.

I am intrigued somewhat by the film and may just check out a matinee of the film, if it actually does open on April 12th.

Just as I suspected...upcomingmovies.com reports that NEW BEST FRIEND has been moved to sometime in the fourth quarter of the year. No wonder, with nary a bit of advertising, Columbia Tri-Star would have a hell of a time getting people to see this opening weekend.

Well, according to the website and www.rottentomatoes.com (http://www.rottentomatoes.com) it's still coming out Friday. And Joblo just reviewed it so I'm sure it's coming out, but it probably won't be in many theaters.

I actually want to see this movie now, even though Joblo gave it a bad review. Just look at the hotties in it http://www.joblo.com/ubb/smile.gif!!! Plus, two of them kiss, so that's a plus. It actually sounds interesting. I don't expect much, but I think it could be fun. Most likely I'll check it out on video.

By the way, has ANYONE seen ANY previews for it on TV at all? I know I haven't. If they aren't advertising it then it's going to do extra bad at the Box Office, it most likely would anyway but with no advertising it will do worse. According to yahoo.com it's opening in limited release, does anyone know how many theaters? I'm thinking maybe around 400-600 theaters. I guess we'll see.

I also saw the film and love hot chicks way more than the next guy but the film still blowed. Talk about choppy! No wonder the flick' been on the shelve for 3 years and went through all kinds of title changes.

The trailer is beyond misleading its not even funny. It makes it look like a thriller whene its really a badly edited music video like drama, with clumsy character development, a weird flow, some TNA and an abrupt and predictable ending. No big mystery here. The In Crowd is a masterpiece next to this flick and Taye Diggs should fire his agent, he deserves SO MUCH BETTER! I love the guy!

I read that NEW BEST FRIEND is being released on a mere 100 screens. That is a very bad sign, showing that Columbia/Tristar has no faith in the film whatsoever.

New Best Friend is gonna be D.O.A!

It may make $50,000 smacks at the B.O, but thats about it.
