I think you're referring to my all time favourite movie CLOWNHOUSE. The film features a young boy who is scared of clowns. He is left at home with his two older brothers when they become terrorized by three mental patients who have escaped the local asylum and dressed up as clowns.
Either that or KILLER KLOWNS FROM OUTER SPACE, an inferior film in every sense of the word. :)

i LOVE that film!
while it does slow down a bit in the middle,
the beginning and end well make up for the
little lag in between.

Shivers (1975) - Cronenberg gem
Humanoids from the Deep (1980) - Mutant half fish rapists attack a village! Super Cheesy
Bad Taste (1987) – Aliens hunt down humans to serve as food at their fast food restaurants! Low budget splatter feast by Peter Jackson!

for slashers: house on sorority row, the burning, just before dawn, the beyond, poltergiest, last house on the left(extreamly nasty, grindhouse flick),sleepaway camp(just for the ending), almost anything from cronenburg, romero, argento, bob clark(horror flicks), or carpenter

Wes Craven's Last House on the Left (1972) is along the same lines as I Spit. I wouldn't really call these horror flicks more like trashy sexplotation thrillers.
You should go to your local Video store and just pick up Evil Dead (1981) and Evil Dead II (1987). They have been mentioned before and with good reason.

the fact i was 10 or 11 when i was shown "I Spit On Your Grave" PROBABLY is why i mentioned it on my list! it was old as hell then too! but THAT'S enough to terrify ANY kid for life! i blame the cool babysitter!

I Spit and Last House are definitely horrific, and they are generally categorized as Horror so they are excellent "old school" suggestions to yorrick’s topic. Personally though I have never really though of them as such.

Ok I saw this film listed and I've heard of it before. My problem is I desperately want to see and I can't find it anywhere. Where in the name of God can I find this film?
