I was looking at all these barebone releases of great films coming out lately... and started wondering; if you had the power to put anything on a given special edition version of any film, what would it be? From technical aspects, to packaging, to special features.
Here is the setup I prefer;
DISC ONE
* The Film
Anamorphic Widescreen (OAR)
Full Bitrate DTS (Original language)
Dolby Digital 5.1 (Original language)
Commentary by Director
Commentary by Leading Cast
- additional technical commentaries -
Subtitles in major languages (English, French, Spanish... etc)
(if foriegn language film, do not include a dubbed track.)
^ This is all I need for me to be satisfied.

i want feature length making of documentaries... like Devils Rejects had and Clerks 2 had.
I love those... i want to see how a flick was made from the first time the idea was thought up, to the day that the documentary has to made on.
If the movie tanks, i want that in the documentary, or if it is a hit, i want that in there. Just complete documentaries covering every aspect of the flick!
i also like Mock documentaries or stuff like that, like if there is something in the flick that could be given to a mock topic... such as The Blair Witch Projects hour long special that aired on the sci fi channel. Those are interesting to me

a theatrical trailer, becuase a lot of old movies have interesting trailers
at least one audio commentary with at least 2 or more people, they're always more interesting and more usually funnier when there's two or more
and one documentary or at least something 60 minutes or over on it
with none of that, oh we used a green suit and animated his face crap be specific in details.
such as The Blair Witch Projects hour long special that aired on the sci fi channel
and I fucking knew it, I knew I did see a special on that movie on sci-fi, real long time ago.

I'll second that....If they'd just put EVERYTHING that they have into each edition of a dvd, they could easily charge more for dvds - since there'd be no worries on double, triple, and sometimes quadruple dipping.

All this. Especially the documentaries. Loved the Raging Bull and Seven Samurai (3-disc) docs (and others). Need more like that.

Yeah I couldn't really tell if the movie was true or not, and it worked.
I would also like more special editions with, more unessecary gore. I want boxs to say the version you couldn't see in theater with 25 minutes of real gore. That's if it's a horror movie.

I just want a commentary, and one that isn't half-assed. Most of the other stuff is secondary; well, I prefer widescreen, anamorphic and all that other stuff, but the commentary is numero uno.

p.s. On the next edition of saw 3 aka SAW 3 EXTENDED EDITION, released before SAW IV:
i want a commentary track with SAW creators James Wann and Leigh Whannel.
second commentary with saw stars Tobin Bell and Shawnee Smith.
Third commentary with director and producers of saw 3 on this new cut of the film.

I like 1-2 commentaries. 1 with the director and cast, the other with the director and crew.( iF the director also wrote the movie, then one of them alone.)
Several theatrical trailers and tv spots.
Behind the scenes documentaries that range from 30-60 minutes.
Deleted scenes/outtakes.
siskel and ebert review of the movie or ebert and roeper review.
