Which do you prefer?
I'm on the fence...

8 bucks, 10 bucks. The big screen is worth it. Hands down.
Although I do have a killer home theater. But nothing really comes close to seeing a movie that was meant for the big screen, on the big screen.

Ummmmmm.....
You're new here, that's obvious.
I'm not quite sure what you are asking, seeing that this is in the DVD topic thread, so you can't really watch DVD's in a theatre. If you are asking where I'd rather watch a movie, I'd say at home. You don't have to drive somewhere, wait in line, pay 9 bucks for a movie, pay ridiculous prices for snacks, sit next to strange people who are gonna annoy you...etc. Usually going to a theatre is great, but I prefer the comfort of my own home.
Welcome to the boards.

My friend is a manager at a theater and they use DVDs sent by the studios to play the movies.
It's very nice!

I like both, but if I had to choose I'd say home....reason: I buy 90% of what I want to see, and home usually means own.

While I see most movies at home on DVD or otherwise, there's no denying it: The big screen is totally worth it and a whole other experience. When I had more free time (like, when I was in high school), I'd go to the cinematheque whenever they showed an older movie I was interested in that I would have otherwise had to watch on DVD or on TV. So, yeah. Theatre all the way, man.

I third that. I've had very few bad experiences at the theater. I enjoy the whole experience of going to the theater to see a film. As far as buying tickets go, I've never had to wait in line. When it comes to parking I don't own a vehicle, so no worries there for me. And as far as the price of food and drink goes, ya it's expensive, but I got no choice and I can afford it therefore...

Theater - all the way. My home system isn't bad - I've got some kickass surround sound going on, but the theater experience is second to none. Especially when there's not so much of a crowd going there. Which is usually why I go to matinees.

I agree but I do love going to a big movie on opening night, it's such a great experience

I guess it really depends on the movie. If it's a blockbuster-type movie, then I would definitely catch it on the big screen. I really enjoy going to the theater and I would go more often but it's just too damn expensive..

Uhmm... One thing I got to say first is when it comes to quality, watching movies at home wins, my local theatre is not digital at all and only one theatre out of 4 has any surround sound, the picture isn't usually lined up 100% with the screen, and its usually pretty scratchy, with all that being said I still prefer the theater, just love going to the movies, nothing beats it.

Some movies are just better seen in the theater, but I prolly enjoy staying home more...

I'm blurred on this issue since it depends on what kind of movie it is. Theater is only for movies that I'm really excited to see and has great word of mouth from those smart enough to not see Epic Movie.
If it's a movie that I have somewhat of an interest in but isn't worth $7-8 a matinee to me (Accepted,You Me & Dupree) especially after word of mouth (I usually depend on RT) then I wait for video. Plus, video is cheaper with Netflix especially since I make minimum wage.

Thankfully, I don't support myself in terms of living yet. I hear come next year it will be $8 an hour making it the 4th highest of the 50 states. It's now $7.50 this year. It's now near the average price of a matinee. Fucking insane in the membrane, ain't it?

Theatre, but I greatly appreciate the option of stopping the pic whenever I need to piss or take a brief nap.

torn on this
i used to love going to the movies, but it;s incredible how many rude and annoying ppl there are that go. There have been so many times where ive been tempted to get up and yell at someone or smack them. (I used to be SOOOOO pist about this that i used to bring a TAZOR to the theater... never used it tho... )
for example,
when i watched SoaP, there was a family of mexicans sitting behind me and their kids kept running around down the aisles and kicking my seat. nothing against mexicans or anything, but why the FUCK are u bringing your toddlers to see Snakes ON A MOTHAFUCKA PLANE HUH? actually, now that i think about it, mexican families tend to watch ANYTHING, and bring their kids too. WTF. My parents might have been "unconventional" to take me and my brothers to Saving Private Ryan when we were kids (and that fucked me up), but there's a difference between that and taking your 5-year-old rugrat to fucking BORAT or SAW 3.
and during Casino Royale, some fucker's phone went off AT LEAST FIVE times. im surprised somebody else didn't say anything.
i hate fuckers like these. During Deja Vu, a group of black girls came in late, so of course they dint know wtf was going on. During the whole movie, it was "whad he say? why he say dat? why he do dat? mmmmm Denzel is looking gooooood!" Nothing against Blacks or anything, but STFU and maybe you'll get something out of the movie.
This may be starting to sound racist, so I'm gonna diss on my own race and family now. Some Asian emo wannabe teenage asshole was sitting next to me during The Italian Job and ruined hte movie for me by crunching on his goddamn ice the whole time. I dunno how the fuck he could hear what was going on, cuz i sure couldnt. I wanted to pop him in the face with my elbow.
I watched Apocalypto with my cousins and brother, and during the whole movie, when something crazy happened, they'd practically scream "OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH" or "ARE YOU SERIOUSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!" after the movie, i was like... damn you guys are fucking loud! Remind me not to watch anything with you again.
As an Asian, my parents would take the whole family to movie hop as i was growing up. And my mom would bring in a huge bag of lunches, drinks, the works. It was like a feast every time. And we'd watch at least 2 movies. Yeah, we're shady ass mofos, but whatever, I still do that now and movie hop 2-6 movies when i can and bring in a Lunchables or whatever.
As a DVD collector and general movie whore, I movie hop so I know which movies I like and which ones ill be buying on DVD.
Also, even tho the time between theater release and DVD release is growing smaller and smaller, i hate getting shit spoiled for me, so i try to go to the theater on opening weekend for movies im really looking fwd to. So it sucks when some retard watching SoaP for the 3rd time on opening Friday excitedly tells his friends right before anything happens, "WATCH THIS. THIS IS SO FUNNY." or "THIS PART IS SO COOL'". STFU.
i wish i had my own private theater.
im done ranting now.

It all depends. On the mood of the film, of course. If it's a blockbuster, action, or comedy film... then there is no better bet then a theatre-viewing. It just heightens the excitement factor, sharing the audience's reactions as well as your own. Nothing beats seeing Snakes on a Plane pre-opening night with a theatre full of SoaP fans. Best experience I've ever had, and watching the movie with a small group just isn't the same. If it's a dramatic film, or an arthouse flick... I'd much rather catch it at home.

Definitly home.
I rarely go to the theatre these days. It's too annoying, too expensive and (a point no one has made yet) I can watch on my own schedule and not theirs.
I've noticed these days I prefer to watch tv or movies on my own schedule. I don't juggle around my schedule to fit the need of a movie or even the weekly tv show. In fact I find even that annoys me; waiting for a whole week for the next episode of a tv show is just not something I'll do any more. I'd rather wait and get the show on dvd when it's released and watch all at once. I think this is a big change in people's attitudes these days the ability to watch it on your own schedule.
And you can watch the movie as many times you like too. You can lend it to friends, you can do with it as you wish. After all, that's why DIVX didn't take off a few years ago now and why I think any medium that comes out that limits playability of the medium will always fail. people want to own and be able to watch whenever and however many times they want.
