I watched it the other day. Enjoyed it a lot, but ....
***SPOILER***
I felt the final "twist" would have been better a different way....a lot better. It would have been more powerful if Caviezel shot Pepper and Kinnear, and afterward realized he was an undercover cop, and then they completely throw out the mistress twist and making his own plot to kidnap Pepper.

Yeah i thought about that but I liked the fact that he didn't kill them because he wanted to change. I liked the ending the way it was.

Dont get me wrong, I didn't really want to see Pepper or Kinnear die either, part of me was actually cheering for them to live, but as far as the overall film would have gone, I think the other ending I mentioned would have made it a better filim overall and more powerful. To me it seemed, they just tossed in that thing with Pepper's wife just to add in an unneeded twist just for the sake of it.

it was all right.... i suspected that Caviezel was a kidnapper but actually undercover the whole time (i mean, cmon... the way they centralized on his character from the beginning and his flashbacks... they painted him as a generally good guy, so of course he's gonna be a kidnapper... but audiences aren't gonna fly with him being TOTALLY bad, so the only way to make up for that is either 1) have him regret his kidnapping part or wahtever and turn good and help the victims, or 2) he's actually undercover.
as for the twist at the end, i agree with u there, samsanchez...
i liked the premise and the idea of the film, but its novelty wore off about halfway to me... if they had stopped bickering so much, i think they couldve figured out for themselves sooner who was bad and who was good.
i give this movie a C. i dint like it. i dint hate it.

Great minds think alike. You just said EXACTLY what I wanted the ending to be, but knew it wouldn't.
Even though I enjoyed the film (for the most part), I predicted every single twist as it was approaching. Problem is, it's not fair to blame the director or writer. These types of movies are very hard to do well... So even though I kept wanting UNKNOWN to be better, I couldn't help but feel that was an unreasonable expectation.
Well, either way, I liked it. Solid film.
