Warner Bros has reportedly moved to snap up a script for a Wonder Woman movie, written by rookie scriptwriters Matthew Jennison and Brent Strickland. The studio is believed to be already involved in a separate Wonder Woman picture that is being developed by Buffy creator Joss Whedon and producer Joel Silver. The Hollywood Reporter quotes sources that imply the studio is buying the Jennison-Strickland screenplay as a pre-emptive measure to remove it from the market. Early reports suggest that there are few similarities between the two projects. Where the Jennison-Strickland adventure is apparently set during the second world war, the Whedon version has a contemporary backdrop.

Can anyone shed some light on this move to a guy who isn't the biggest of movie fans? Why buy a second script when you already have the rights and no one else can make the film but you? What's the big deal about another script being out there?

I wouldn't be surprised if this weren't a measure to threaten Whedon to speed things up. How long has it been since there's been any progress on Whedon's Wonder Woman? Feels like months. Either they're not caring for what Whedon's bringing in or he's not bringing it in fast enough and they want to use Jennison and Strickland's script as back up in case things fall through.

Buyiing the second script could also mean that Warners is hoping to turn WW into a franchise
