A CGI Ghostbusters III?
Source: CISN Country February 2, 2007
Dan Aykroyd visited radio station CISN Country and revealed that a Ghostbusters III is in the works.
Aykroyd said that the film will be CGI and Bill Murray has agreed to do the voice of Dr. Peter Venkman. No word on whether Harold Ramis, Ernie Hudson or any other of the original actors will return to voice their characters.

I'm not so sure about this. A company a while ago released a Gears of War mod with a modern day Ghostbuster theme. Last I heard, support for the game was gaining momentum, so I think it's more likely to be a game than a movie, as it would explain the CGI mention better.

...Why a CGI sequel? If they actually talked Murray into voicing his character (which is a surprise, since Murray doesn't like to do sequels AT ALL), then go for a live action version.

Yet he did the Garfield sequel. And of coarse the first Ghostbusters sequel.

From what I understand, they had an awfully hard time convincing Murray to come back for Ghostbusters II. As far as Garfield 2 goes, or heck, even the first Garfield, I think Murray just looked at it as easy money.

Bill Murray and Harold Ramis had a falling out after Groundhog Day, which for those of you who don't know - Ramis directed. They haven't worked together since; not sure if they've even talked since. So, good luck getting them in the same room together. CGI makes it a little easier for the two to be in the same movie together.
The only problem I have with a sequel, especially a CGI sequel, is it will probably be targeted towards the teen, kids crowd. That's what one of the problems of the first sequel was. The original was a dark comedy and is one of the best (if not the) ever made. Kids don't get it; it's for adults.
So . . . make it dark, or don't make it at all.

I don't like it but we have to remember, these guys are getting old and they don't have what it takes to do a live action sequel. However, if they're voicing their characters again, I'm totally there. I'm with bigred as well in hoping that they keep it dark like the originals.

The guys never did anything in the films they couldnt do now. What, a bit of runnin here n there, shooting a fake proton pack. Id say they could easily do it now if they wanted to. Look at the other films, theres not too much action there, LIVE ACTION.

That's true, I just figure that they don't want to do it. None of them have really done anything in the last few years really.

Well, Bill Murray is in his non-comedic phase; Harold Ramis has been directing more than anything, though he's done a few cameos (Last Kiss was the last thing I saw him in), Dan Ackroyd has been doing his music/blues thing, and Ernie Hudson still kicks ass whatever he does.
But you're right, they are getting old; and Harold Ramis has put on a few pounds. Actually, more than a few - you guys saw him in As Good As It Gets.

Actually I recall reading somewhere that the proton packs were extremely fucking heavy and would probably break their backs now.

I just have to say that no ghostbusters anything would work without the amazing Rick Moranis.

First they ditch Jim Henson's wonderful ninja turtles for CGI. Now they ditch capable human bodies? Granted they're getting old, but who wouldn't want to see the Ghostbusters still doing what they love to do in their late 50s early 60s? The classic dillema of them worrying about fading away, losing their touch, etc. Then of coarse some thing big starts rampaging through the streets of New York City, or Slimer is up to no good, or some thing of that sort, and they find the spark that's been missing... Oh well, let's just hope the CGI looks something like the cartoon: the Real Ghostbusters.

I loved the first one, liked the second one, and enjoyed the cartoons. I had the toys. I have fond memories of the Ghostbusters...
I do not want to see this happen because I do not want to see them fuck up the Ghostbusters. Talk of a CGI version is already a huge leap in the wrong direction; although a live action "Ghostbusters: The Retirement Years" doesnt sound much better... I can just picture it now, the gang has moved to Miami, Slimmer is tormenting the hot nurse, the guys are fighting him off while drooling over her and trying to fight off cardiac arrest and taking their happy pills.
Pass.

I think I'd prefer something along the lines of a "Ghostbusters: The Next Generation" with a new team of guys (and gals). I liked the original four - they basically made that movie, but it is possible to create new characters than can do the same thing. But again, keep it a dark comedy; as much as I like them, don't have Will Ferrell, Ben Stiller, Owen Wilson, etc. take over the roles. Get serious/dramatic actors (up-and-comers obviously) to do some comedic turns.

If Bill Murray has actually said he'd take part in this film, then folks, that is something. Murray's lack of involvement has been the major reason why GB3 has never gotten off the ground. And I would hate to see it done without my beloved Peter Venkman. If he has to deliver his sarcastic dry wit in a sound booth, it's still better than nothing.
When I think of Ghostbusters, I think of my childhood. No other movie quite has the same nostalgic effect for me. If they do this, I hope they do it right.
