Am I the only guy who fucking loves them? Their new album (well, relatively--2004) is one of the best pop albums made in the last ten years. I'm not kidding, listen to the first three songs off of it. In a perfect world, it would have shot them back to superstardom.

You're not the only one. I loved their 80s hits from that 85 album (SFTBC) and I remember my two older cousins from my dad's side of the family loved them a lot then when I was 4 or 5 at the time.
I got their 1st two (Hurting,Big Chair) last year and even listened to The Hurting yesterday as well. Shout has my favorite guitar solo from any non hair metal 80s song ever. Pity radio stations fuck it up by playing radio edits because of the song being over 5 minutes long. :(
Speaking of being "only one", am I the only one who prefers the original Mad World over Gary Jules' albeit decent version? The synths just add even more to the lyrics of the song.

I haven't heard the whole album but Closest Thing to Heaven was stuck in my head for months.

"Everyone Wants to Rule the World" is a great, great song. I love it.

Had a brief mid-eighties dalliance with the music of Tears For Fears but from Sowing The Seeds Of Love onwards I lost interest. I found their music to be crass and lacking in subtlety. Not that either of these elements are essential but I also found their songs to be unnapealingly earnest. But I can see why people would like 'em. Just not for me.

What a fucking coincidence. I see the thread is bumped while I'm actually listening to this album right now. The Prisoner (track 9 of 10) just started playing.
Also worth noting, there's some great sax playing by Mel Collins of King Crimson on tracks 4 (Ideas As Opiates) and 5 (Memories Fade) on the album.

i personally think they were and still are underated ,i mean in this day and age people get giddy about the police reforming or phil collins singing another middle of the road bland peice of shyte, they never seam to be mentioned as an important band from that era,if u asked most people about 80's music they would mention bands like duran duran, culture club and spandau ballet before tears for fears and that is a complete travesty.

I'm much like my mother in that I really don't care for Tears for Fears. The main difference is that she can't stand them AT ALL and I am totally in love with one of their songs:
Head over Heels
Maybe it's just because it was in Donnie Darko. I'd like to think not but one never really knows.
