View Full Version : Double Dip Digest: The Silence of the Lambs

US, February 2, 2007 - When a movie enters the cultural consciousness as thoroughly as The Silence of the Lambs, it's tough to watch it just as a piece of entertainment anymore. Fifteen-plus years after its initial release, there are so many iconic moments, influential ideas, and just plain bad imitations that one really does have to pare down his or her perception just to appreciate the economy and intelligence of Jonathan Demme's film. Now re-released in a two-disc set in conjunction with the forthcoming prequel Hannibal Rising, audiences will enjoy another opportunity to peer inside the mind of a madman; and even with the preponderance of sequels and rip-offs that diluted its formulas, Silence is afforded another chance to open up about the legacy that it inspired.
The Silence of the Lambs (Collector's Edition) was released January 30, 2007, and features the following materials:

One half of me really wants to get this release of SoTL, where as the other half still craves to the possibility that I'll find the Criterion release over on Ebay for a decent price - I think I'm gonna leave it for a while, and if I still haven't had any joy with the Criterion I might splash out for this release.

Search on Ebay that's where I've gotten a few of my double dippers for less than $20 USD.

im pretty sure this will probably be on sale for about 14.99 in a month or so at Best Buy, they always seem to lower prices. i remember when the Apocolypse Now:The Complete Dossier came out, it was like 21.99 and now its only like 14.99.
but even saying that, it's a great movie and worth buying it at full price anyways

I have the MGM Special Edition and the Criterion. Somehow though I feel the need to get this one since I love the film so much.

I have the MGM special edition. It has everything the collector's edition has except for the "page to screen" and "demme and foster" docs, and the featurette on the film's score. Added to the fact that the cover art on the Collector's Edition looks atrocious, I would say no double dip for me.
