Director Set for 'Wolfman' Remake
De Toro will star and produce

Benicio Del Toro's remake of the Universal classic "The Wolfman" has landed Mark Romanek to direct.

A fall production start is expected for the Andrew Kevin Walker-scripted update of the 1941 Lon Chaney Jr. vehicle. Scott Stuber and Mary Parent are producing for Universal, with Del Toro and Rick Yorn also producing.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the script maintains the period setting of the original, which finds a man returning to his homeland of Victorian England, where he gets bitten by a wolf and undergoes some unfortunate changes every full moon.

Romanek's feature credits are limited to the creepy Robin Williams vehicle "One Hour Photo," but his music video accomplishments are myriad. Obvious highlights include Johnny Cash's "Hurt," Jay-Z's "99 Problems," Madonna's "Rain" and Michael and Janet Jackson's "Scream."

this is the first movie, since...Hostel, that I'm anxiously anticipating. Mostly due to Andrew Kevin Walker as a writer behind it, his work on Se7en, is a work of art..and I'm anxious to see what he has for us in the remake of Wolfman. Sounds very exciting.

The original film, I remember watching it in 2001..when AMC was still showing the "FX" show on Friday nights, and after they would usually play a classic horror film - I never missed those. Ahhh..brings back memories!

This is looking really promising; Walker is the writer, Benicio del Toro is the lead, and now Romanek is directing. His One Hour Photo is really impressive as far as direction is concerned.

I was wondering when Romanek was going to make another film. He's done a lot of great work.
