Apparently Jaws 5 and Deep Blue Sea 2 are both on the chopping block for Direct-to-DVD releases. The source says:
"....They came straight fucking out and told me that they're trying to rehook people back into the Jaws franchise. They reckon with cutcost CGI being what it is they could churn this stuff out. I told them somebody already was with those Shark Attack movies with the dude out of Starship Troopers. This one guy says "Yes, but they're missing the one thing ours won't be!" I was all like "What's that?" He says "The Jaws title and the Jaws theme! We own them!" No, I didn't tell him that those were TWO things! So they asked me if I'd read or was aware of the Deep Blue Sea sequel script that was out there that Warners are hoping to make a straight-to-DVD series out of. I say no and they tell me all about it. It sounds shit. I tell them that. They agree. They ask me what ideas I have on getting people back into Jaws. I totally had nothing but I pitched it anyway. Pitched them on what I would go rent."
Jaws is one of my favorite films of all time, and after Jaws 3 and Jaws the Revenge I don't think they could make much more of a mockery out of this franchise. In both cases, no matter how bad the idea sounds, I will probably see them because I love monster movies, and I love shark movies.

I'd check out a Deep Blue Sea 2....the first one was a huge guilty pleasure of mine.

I'd be down with Deep Blue Sea 2. Maybe LL Cool J will give us another brilliant song for the end credits.

Id check out both of these as cheap rentals on a slow day.
Maybe.
Jaws 5 is a terrible idea. If i see a cgi Jaws i think id have to kill someone. Jaws 1 and 2 have a better looking monster then most of the cgi beasties could ever hope to realize.:o

I'd watch a Deep Blue Sea 2. Proberly be bad but I like those kind of movies. The original was a good movie to watch if nothing else was on.

Jaws 5, are freakin' serious?!?! Apparently whoever greenlit that didn't see Jaws 3 or Jaws: The Revenge. Pathetic. I didn't see Deep Blue Sea, so I have no comment on that, but let the Jaws franchise die in peace.

I loved Deep Blue Sea, but a second one would be terrible. That cast was awesome in the first, so no thanks on a second.

I'd see Deep Blue Sea 2 only if they made it like the first one, and had the sharks switching sizes throughout the movie.
Or if the main character was LL Cool J's parrot.
I'd see Jaws 5 only if they brought back Louis Gossett, Jr.

Amen to that. Hard to imagine but the perpetually out-of-order mechanical Bruce in Jaws looks more realistic than many of the fully computer generated sharks in Deep Blue Sea. I still snort every time Samuel L. Jackson gets taken down. Looks CHEESY.

I think the makers of DBS did that on purpose. It's a B movie, whaddaya expect?

I had an idea once for a Jaws 5, but looking back on it now, it's stupid.
Just like straight to video sequels.

But the animatronic sharks in DBS were excellent and 100% convincing. I just noticed a huge dip in quality when they were CG sharks. On the DBS commentary, Renny Harlin challenges the viewer to see if they can distinguish between the real and CG sharks. Not too hard there, Renny.
It is a B-movie, I can appreciate that, but it's a $60 million B-movie.

eh?
JAWS 2 was a far better movie then it had any right to be. While not the first, its still a great little thrill ride of a movie.

I really liked Jaws 2. It was like a more over the top actiom movie version of Jaws. It made a great compainion to the original, like Alien and Aliens.
And I really admired the scope and ambistion of Jaws 3, but the execution? Not so much. Pretty bad acting and effects. I mean, come on, a 35 foot shark?
And Jaws 4 was just plain retarded. I love how it doesn't even acknowledge anyting that happened in Jaws 3 - the characters are totally different.
