I don't buy movies anymore, but I will make an exception for this. This is already one of my favorite movies. I will be there Tuesday morning to get this.
EDIT*****
I have to admit, I really like that cover art. I would've preferred the original poster art, but that is a hell of a lot better than the region 2 art.

like therealjohng said...i'd prefer the original artwork but at least it's not as terrible as the Region 2...besides, I don't think there was ever a chance they were going to use the original artwork, no faces on it, etc so...maybe for a special edition in the future?

I was hoping they would use this for the cover art of a SE:

I love that poster but personally, I think I'd prefer to see it as the back cover of a special edition rather than the front. Though honestly, if they used that poster at all for either front or back of an SE, I'd be very happy.

You know, beings that Universal completely fucked this movie over, they should do the noble thing and hand over the rights to this movie to The Criterion Collection and let them do a spectacular edition of it.
I'm still pretty steamed about how badly this movie has handled. I probably shouldn't be, but it's hard.

I saw it and I'm still recovering from the self inflicted gun shot wound.

Why didn't they just still with the US theatrical artwork. That was an insane poster! This cover sucks, but the movie is so good that I don't really give a fuck.

Let's face it, America's "normies" cannot read names and need a movie star's face on the cover to sell a DVD.

I didnt.
I was just sure this was getting a bare bones release since it was a well made, thought provoking movie.
They seem to be ripe for such things.

I will be purchasing the Region 4 edition of children of men, (see the attached pic for cover art)
its a 2-Disc Special Edition, and getting the nice treatment the film deserves, I suspect the film did better in australia than the U.S and that is why it is getting released in region 4 as a special edition.
Special Features to be included:
Children of Men Comments by Slavoj Zizek
Futuristic Design - from concept to creation, see how director Alfonso Cuarón’s dynamic vision of the future was brought to life
Visual Effects - Creating the Baby
Men Under Attack - Making of Featurette
Theo & Julian - get the inside story from Clive Owen and Julianne Moore
The Possibility of Hope - a documentary by Alfonso Cuarón that explores the themes in Children of Men
Deleted Scenes
If you want to pick up this edition there's a few online stores that stock region 4, you can try www.ezydvd.com.au

I think they (and I) were asking more where did you hear there were special features rather than where did you hear it was barebones...
cause last I heard, no special features had been announced so....

Rumors, yes, but still:
The extras haven't been revealed in full I'm afraid, although we can confirm that the disc will include deleted scenes, featurettes and more.

OWNED. By me, that is. As in, March 27th this will be sitting on my DVD shelf :) Best goddamn movie of the year. Cover art is tolerable, although I've already expressed my wish: An all-black cover with the image of the baby fetus from the North American poster right in the middle sort of embroiled, or however you call it when it slightly sticks out off the cardboard like on the Magnolia or War of the Worlds Limited Edition DVDs.

nice extras all things considered (from davisdvd.com):
-Deleted Scenes
-"The Possibility of Hope" = a documentary by Alfonso Cuaron that explores societal collapse.
-"Men Under Attack" = featurette that shows how filmmakers created the most dangerous scenes.
-"Futuristic Design" = from concept to creation, see how the director's dynamic vision of the future was brought to life.
-"Visual Effects: Creating the Baby"
-"Theo and Julian" = Clive Owen and Julianne Moore talk about their characters.
-"Children of Men Comments" by philosopher Slavoj Zizek.
